I have been given the task of booking a hotel and resturant for a works "meeting;) " in Manchester.
I am thinking of booking the Midland Hotel, and now need to find a posh resturant nearby for lunch.
Our BIG bosses are coming over from Ireland so we want to impress them ;) ( and they are paying so it would be rude not to go 5*)
Cost is really not an issue and I really do want to impress them.
Could you suggest a nicer hotel than the Midland?
The resturant needs to cater for a variety of tastes as I dont really know what sort of food they all like.

The Lowry Hotel is top notch, the Midland is good (one of the better Manchester hotels).
However the new Hilton Manchester Deansgate is supposed to be amazing and has excellent dining at the Podium Restaurant (heard some really good reports about it) and has 12 meeting rooms. Also has a bar on the 23rd floor looking out over Manchester for pre lunch drinks?.
It is the new tall building that you can see for miles around Manchester near the GMEX.

Wings in Lincoln Square is one of the best i've come accross. It's THE only chinese worth eating in, service is discreet but very attentive and the food is amongst the best i've tasted. Most of the United team eat there, as do Posh & Becks.:)
Just seconding Amanda's recommend for Wings... superb!
Le Petit Blanc Brasserie has served us well a couple of times in the past too.

French's in the Middland is very old school nice. The hotel has had a refit and it has pulled it back upto it's old standards which is good. But I think the Radissson Edwardian is better and they have a lovely bar and restaurant called Opus.
I stayed on the executive floor of the new Hilton this weekend..it was lovely ( not to mention the free bar from 3-8pm!).
The views really are great, the menu at the podium looked lovely and the pancakes at breakfast were yummy.
I think it depends on the age of the people involved. The Midland is a beautiful traditonal hotel and the French restaurant in the hotel is supposed to be one of the best in town.
I went to the Grill on The Alley for my birthday lunch..they have a kobe steak there for 50 pounds....the cow is fed beer and massaged-they do a burger version for 17!

I am veggie and it was great for me too.
Stock is nice..the buiding is beautiful

I have stayed at the Lowry and although the room was lovely, the hotel was'n't all friendly.
If you are looking for cocktails and handsome barmen then try Panacea(across road from grill)
Have Fun!

midland is fantastic if they would like old school traditional.
The lowry for trendy wow factor.
The new hilton on deansgate if they are knowledgeable about the hotel or building industry as its "the" new building acheivement and the bar is "the " place to go for a drink in the city.
I went to Opus at the Radisson and stayed over last month wasnt that impressed TBH. Also the atmosphere at Opus is a bit clubby - all red and very dark lighting - not really suitable for business meetings.
Just MHO!

I have to go with Elise on this one!!!!!!
The exec. floor at the Hilton is fab!!
The Grill on the Alley is my all time favorite (the chicken pie and the lamb are to die for !!!). Stock is lovely too (try the T-bone steak for two!)although it is much quiter than the Grill on the Alley.
If you want to try the "sky bar" at the Hilton and are not staying there you will need to rind them and book as it is table service only and you need to reserve a table.
Have a great time!!!!

Do you ever see any offers on rooms at the Lowry? We always went ot the Raddison until the Hilton opened but I would love to try the Lowry...every time I look to book though the rooms are REALLY expensive.
I think I may have to treat hubby to a weekend away without the kids;)
