Has anyone been to New York? Where's a good place to stay (i.e. hotel and/or location)? Thanks.
I've been a couple of times, the first time to work, the second was just before Christmas last year. I love the place, any of the mid town hotels are pretty good. Manhattan isn't that big, you can walk to most places, and those that are a bit further away the subway is a real cheap way of getting around.
How long are you planning? We went for four days, but I could happily spend a week there, there's plenty to do.

I went about 18 months ago for (Suprise Suprise) a U2 show!! (Yeah, I think I have a habit!!) We stayed 4 nights and were there for Thanksgiving. We stayed a... urm....'quirky' place called Chelsea Star (which was kinda like a glorified hostel really) BUT we spent next to NO time at all in the room whatsoever!! It literally was a case of using the room for nothing else other than a sleep and a shower so it suited us fine. The location was pretty good... I THINK (and don't quote me on this) that it was on 32nd and 8th (somewhere around that area)... A couple of blocks from Madison Square Garden which is ideal for being so close to Penn Station and being able to get on the subway! I absolutely loved New York... It really is the City that never sleeps and possibly the most breathtaking thing i've ever seen in my life is rounding a corner and Times Square literally hitting every sense in your body!!

We (myself, DW and DD) plan on staying about 4 nights. We just want to do the regular tourist things.

Hi we've just returned from the USA stayed 3 days in NY on route to Orlando.
This was our first NY trip. We stayed at the Raddisson Martinique on Broadway. The Hotel was in a fantastic location, 1 block from Empire State, a short walk to Time Square & opposite Macy's and a small shopping mall.
We booked via Purelyamerica website and got a good price.
Good Luck hope you have a great time.

We stayed at the Affinia 50 which was near Broadway and Times Square. Our room had a kitchen and there was a really good deli around the corner Azure (sp) which sold hot food to take away, salads etc for what seemed to be 24 hours. We really enjoyed the red bus tours (DH has some mobility problems) and the stop was just around the corner from the hotel. We went in early July and the only thing that was affected by the heat was the carriage rides in Central Park. You could smell the horses well before you saw them. So no romantic carriage ride for us:( but we did go to the Natural History Museum, Central Park, most of downtown Manhatten, rode on the Staten Island Ferry, up the Empire State Building and many other things.

Hi, :wavey:
We stayed in a suite at the Waldorf Astoria in January of this year. Good location, hotel was ok, but the service was excellent. The price was comparable to other hotels in that area, we booked through Hotels.com.
Cheers
