Hi all,

I'm looking for a week's holiday somewhere warm in October half term. Unfortunately DH won't go to Florida so I'm looking elsewhere. Places I have looked at and discounted are:

Cyprus - very expensive at that time of year
Egypt - would love to go back but we were there for New Year and DH doesn't want to return so soon
Portugal - not warm enough in October?
Tunisia - Dh thinks it's a terrorist risk!

Help!! As you can see my DH is being very fussy! I'm quite open to the Canaries as long as it's a nice resort and not somewhere where they're playing bingo and there's karaoke in all of the pubs if you know what I mean! I have been to the Canaries a few times and my lasting memory is of horrible English bars etc - sorry if that sounds snobby!

Any bright ideas?

We've been to Tenerife in October and it was very warm.
We stayed at Costa Adeje, lovely resort, not an English pub or game of bingo in sight! ;)

:thumb: That would swing it for me then.

Am i on my own with this but i hate Bingo and Butlins type of entertainment, our hotel in Egypt was like that, one of the reasons i wont return to that particular hotel. Egypt was fantastic though, would go again anytime.

We like lovely atmosphere's with good food and nice wine, and great company without the noise.

No Hun, not at all. At the end of the day we choose where we go and why, its our money to spend. I hate Bingo to start with, so thats out with me. Mind you we stayed in An Iberostar in the Caribbean last August and guess what they played bingo before the kids disco, yuk, yuk, yuk.

Hi

Yes, that is right, as we went to Tenerife last year in October and the hotel is Bahia Principe and no bingo, no karoke!! As it was beautiful hotel and my husband want to go back for his 40th next year in March!! It is 5 stars hotel, quite pricey!!

What about Majorca? As my friend went there last year in October half term and they said that they had a great times.

We stayed at the Costa Adeje Palace, very nice hotel, I would stay there again no problem, but there are some lovely places all along that bit of coast and there is a recently completed promenade with some pretty cafes and restaurants. The beach at El Duq, known locally as the 5 star beach is gorgeous white sand.

I think Oct half term is a great holiday option time as you can usually get some bargains, plus most places it i still warm but not too hot.

For me th options are Sicily, Turkey, Greece.

We stayed here when we went to Turkey years ago,(it's in Olu Deniz). lovely hotel & nice position, and Turkey was our best holiday until Florida. We went September/October time & it was plenty warm enough, lots to see & do, I recommend it.

We always stay at the Aparthotel Rui Adeje. Its in a fab position and has gorgeous little bungalows you can stay in, not a karaoke bar or bingo session in sight!!!! You sound just like me, I hate that kind of stuff (at the risk of sounding snobby - I am lol!!). Its a really nice upmarket resort with lots of lovely restaurants. Our idea of holiday hell is karaoke and bingo lol!!!

We are off at October half term again and have booked Thomsonfly for the flights from Manchester SUPER CHEAP (dont know if you saw my post the other day). The flights for me, dh, dd(6) and ds(1) have only cost £375 in total. The whole holiday for 9 nights has only cost just over £700 for us all!!!!:spin:

What about Dubai? I'd love to go there.

I would also love to go to Dubai but I have priced it up before and unfortunately I think it's a bit out of our budget.

I'm kicking myself today as I priced up a week at the Bahia Principa Costa Adeje all inclusive for the 3 of us with a 3 child place - it was coming out at about £1360. Went back to book it today and the holiday had gone - gutted!!

Might look at some of the other hotels in that resort though, Vicki those flights sound like a very good deal will have a look at those too but knowing my luck they will have gone by now.

OK I need some more help! Have any of you ever booked last minute for school hols? There just don't seem to be any reasonable deals out there, I know I will pay more than normal but the prices seem extortionate at the moment. Also there doesn't seem to be much availability for that week. I'm panicking now that we're not going to get anything booked. Does anyone have any good website recommendations?

I've found this thread really useful because we're looking for something for October halfterm.

We have been very fortunate to have just gotten back from a great two weeks over in the US at Easter = Killington in Vermont for some skiing (brilliant) and then a few days back in Boston sightseeing and shopping. Last year we spent Easter two weeks in Lake Tahoe (California/Nevada) skiing, and then a few days in San Fransisco, so it's been really great visiting other parts of the States than Florida.

However, when we got back this time I really had the blues for a fix of Florida sunshine, so I thought I know, we've all got loads of Virgin FC miles, let's spend some for October half-term and use our friends' apartment in Fort Myers again. I could cope with just a week (it's all we can cos I'm an Admin Officer in a school).

However - no flights available with Virgin and no friends apartment (long term let until end November:cry:

So we all agreed we'd like a week somewhere hot - don't (can't:blush: ) afford much, especially since we're already in the planning stages of a three week trip to florida next summer with our skiing friends (their first time).

I'm afraid I'm like Catherine, Michelle, etc and really don't want anywhere too brash (bingo, karaoke) etc.

Thanks everyone we have finally booked and we're off to Paphos in Cyprus. We have booked flights through Thomsonfly (£715 for the 3 of us, leaving on 18th Oct) and separate accommodation - we found a lovely 2 bed apartment close to the centre on the internet for £350.

I'm really happy with our choice, we last visited Cyprus in 2001 and we loved it so looking forward to going back.

We always have a week all inclusive in Menorca with First choice. Cla n Blanes, lovely little sheltered beach and such a quiet but well set out areas. It has been on our last 4 trips there been really warm, swimming in the sea every day and the pool as well.

For a family of 3 from glasgow £750.00 excellent value and only just over 2 hours away.

No hastles and no need for a car at all there, all in all a lovely relaxing all inclusive week.
