View Full Version : Big girls.... at DC
Now - I admit it, I'm a Big Lass (size 20), and hopefully will have shrunk a bit by the time we go to Discovery Cove in October. (LOL been "shrinking for the past 2 years, but not shrunk very much!!!LOL)
This wet suit business is worrying me. Will I be able to fit in one? Will I be mistaken for Shamu?
Please help
They have life vests & wetsuits to fit all sizes, you certainly won't be the biggest person in the park.
Its a great day out. Relax and have fun! ;)

Don't even worry about it, you will fit in one fine, I was a size 18 last year when we went and they had loads of wetsuits in bigger sizes than I needed.
Stop worrying.
As for looking like shamu, I think only the trainers look good in the wetsuits, and children look cute in them.

At size 20 you will not be considered big, you won't believe the size range of the wetsuits on offer and will have no problem finding one to fit.

I was a size 22/24 last time I went - unfortunately I still am - but I had no problems whatsoever at DC ... the only thing I stressed about was whether the dolphin would be able to pull me along because of my size!!
But, don't worry, you'll be fine ... just sit back, relax and enjoy the run up to your holiday xxxx

They can pull around 4 times their own body weight, so 60-80 stone, don't think you need to worry on that score, I was a size 20 when i went last summer and had no probs at all and I had been worried about it too
You will have a great time ;)
dont worry about your size anyway.
are you going to enjoy yourself,
are you going to have a great time,
are you going to chill and relax.
i guess the answer to my questions are YES, so go and do it, dont worry about how you look and who gives a toot what anyone else thinks. but most of all ENJOY YOUR TIME THERE

you never saw my DC pictures then;) ;)
picture the scene. bronze 6 foot 2 abs like a washboard muscles on muscles.

I was a size 22 (smaller now yayy!) the first time and the suit they gave me was too big  . And as everyone says you will NOT be the biggest. Oh, and when you're in the water with the dolphins you're up to your chest anyway so no-one will see!
Have a great time, DC is the best day out :spin:
thanks every one - that's another worry gone - will now thing of something else to stress about!!!

Well said - it's not as though you're ever going to meet these people again, and life is too short to be bothered about what other people think ... so just enjoy yourself ... the dolphins are so amazing ... I'm going to try and bring one home with me this time!! Just got to work out how I'll get away with smuggling it through security at the airport!! :pgig:

That was one of the things that put me off going to the water parks the last time we went - was too self-concious (sp?) about the 'body beautiful' people that would be there ... think I was expecting the Pamela Anderson type ... might give the water parks a go this time ... if not the water parks, I might stretch to dipping my toe in the hotel pool!!
I do love Discovery Cove though, it's a very laid back, 'no worries' type of feel to it ... I could quite happily stay there for two weeks!!!

That's what I thought when I went to Blizzard Beach - "I'm never going to see these people again!
- so there I was swimming cozzie on, and I hear DS say "R8 Wesley", and.... there was one of the lads in his football team & his family!!!!! They couldn't be at MK or somewhere where I was covered up could they? - no they had to be at a water park. I nearly went blue whilst talking to them as I sucked my stomach in for all I was worth. LOL

LOL, that's exactly what I would have done, either that I would have hid behind something, or someone!!! :pgig:

I'm a size 22/24 and I have to agree that you will have no problems with wetsuits at DC. I also found that the people issuing them were fantastic. When they asked whether we wanted a suit or a vest I queried if they would have a suit big enough for me and was told to not be so silly they went much bigger than I needed. They gave me two different size suits and told me to take my time and see which I was most comfortable with and then return the other. As for the water parks, I also have the attitude that it is fine as I won't see those people again which works really well until the photopass photographers appear and want to take a 'family' shot. However, I now have this down to pat aswell and quickly grab one of my two children to stand behind. As I'm quite short and they are rapidly growing that works quite well!!

I am a size 26 and had no problems with the wet suits and the staff at DC were great. I made a comment about the fact that the dolphin would need to be strong to pull me back to the shoreline and the trainer said "You wait and see " and with one flick of the tail the dolphin pulled me back with such awesome power for such a small creature. They really are amazing !!!
We also seem to bump into someone we know whenever we go to Florida.
Makes me laugh everytime.
