I hear from a good friend that there is a Shuttle Launch on the 9th August while we will be in Florida. Can anybody tell me of a certain beach in the area that is supposed to be fantastic to watch the Launch from, what is this beach called, is it good and how far away from The Space Center are you???? Many thanks:thumbs-up

I got an email from Kenedy stating the launch was as follows:
Shuttle Endeavour . ISS 13A.1
8/5/2007
7:50:00 PM

Looks like they've moved it again  So the motto of the story is ...don't bank on it.... this one has been moved at least FOUR times now.

Check the local newspaper for launch information.

This advice was given to us after we had travelled to cocoa beach for a launch. We had stopped at a local store, for picnic supplies, to ask the best place to view the launch. 'what launch' said the shopkeeper; who went on to explain that some sort of tech problem had caused a three week delay.

Cocoa Beach is the best place to see it from, can't vouch for this as we have never got to see one.

One was due, and was delayed - it finally went up when we were in the Bahamas on a cruise a few days later.

for those that have had the pleasure of been in the land of mouse whilst a launch is due to take place. is it all over the news every 5 mins, or will we need to use the internet to keep updated

Last time we went to see a launch we actually went to Kennedy Space Centre to watch it and the countdown was cancelled with less than 2 minutes to go (massive disappointment).

There was lots of information on various local radio stations and local TV giving updates about when the launch would go ahead (took off the next day with less than a 10 minute launch window). KSC website also updates info and details where the best places to view are located..We ended up driving over to Cocoa Beach to watch it. Hope this helps you and anyone else who had questions.

Can't wait to see another launch! It's the most amazing experience.

Has anyone had experiences of travelling to KSC itself (not just a beach) on a launch day? I really want to know how much worse traffic is. I know travelling there on a good day can take up to 45 minutes to an hour. My fingers are crossed for 5th August.

There was a night time launch while we were there in December. I had always wanted to see a shuttle launch but always either just missed one or the next one was due after we left. However, this time we were there when one was due to go up. We stood on the bridge at OKW waiting to see it it, me armed with my camcorder, only for it to be cancelled at the last minute. However, a couple of days later, we were playing crazy golf on I-Drive in the evening and the guy who was working there told us the shuttle was just about to go up and if we stood up on the golf course we would see it. I was thrilled that I was finally going to see launch and, despite the fact that I didn't have my camcorder on me, it was an awesome experience. I want to see a daytime launch next :D.

We saw a night time launch a few years ago and watched from Banana River. It was a fantastic view and to be honest I didn't bother with my camcorder as the spectacle itself is one to be watched and appreciated for real. You can always get a movie of it from the KSC website!

We're going to this launch(if it happens) and going to watch it from Cocoa Beach. Here's the link for the page of the launch.
