Sort of.

The keyboard will be different, there will be no £ sign and there are some other auxilliary keys which are different.

However when I have looked the price is not that different to the UK to make it worth doing

Usual points : different electricity supply voltage - you would need a step up transformer. A said above keyboard different but that sometimes is just a matter of settings.. Warrenty ? This may be invalid here.

I bought my laptop in New York two years ago. It is a Toshiba, and had an international warranty. I bought it in Circuit City, and the staff were excellent, telling me which ones had this (Toshiba and Sony if I remember correctly) and which ones did not. There was no problem with the power supply, and the different keys (e.g. no £ sign, apostrophe/@ symbol being in a different place) are just a matter of memory, as you can change the language settings on the control panel, and you then just need to remember where you would normally find them!
My husband bought an Apple laptop last year from the Apple Store in the Florida Mall. They also have an international warranty. At that time, it was about £150 cheaper than it would have been in the UK. He is considering buying another MacBook this year, and the price difference is roughly the same. (However, if you do buy from Apple, you can also get an 'educational discount'. If you're interested in finding out more about this, PM me. ;) )
Remember to include local tax in your calculations, and if you do go ahead, ONLY BUY FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY!!!

Using a US bought laptop for this message, have had it for over two years, bought in Best Buy.

Per previous post, need to make sure about power supply, but that's the only real concern I had.

Checked out Best Buy, Circuit City and CompUSA. At the time the saving was ~£200 for the HP computer I was looking at compared to UK prices.

If you are a member of Coscto and buy one at Costco in Orlando just take it back to your local Costco if anything happens to it as they have a worldwide guarantee.
