View Full Version : Bubba Gumps
We headed for Bubba Gump at around 6.30pm. Seated almost immediately, we got a wonderful server - Tyrell, could not have been more helpful and spent time going through the menu and just being funny!
Appetisers foregone as neither of us was super hungry. I had the Shrimpers' Heaven - a combo of Chilly (cold) Prawns, Grilled Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Hush Puppies and Fries - very nice (except the cold ones, bit crisp for me!)
Tin had the Ultimate Combo - Steak (well done), Shrimp and Mash - which he pronounced as almost perfect and the best steak he'd had in ages. Washed down with a couple of Buds for him and a Michelob Ultra for me.

Ultimate Combo at Bubba Gump
We rated the meal and service as 9.5 out of 10 in total and agreed we would go back before we left the RPR. Cannot remember the cost, but it wasn't a pricey meal.
Walked back to RPR - the walkway is lit and pleasant at night, but watch out for the midges!!
Back at the hotel, time for one more beer in Jake's bar and then back to room by 8.30pm. Finally gave up fighting sleep and both crashed out before 10pm again - lightweights I know!

have found a menu with pork sandwich, hamburger and a strange chicken thing on it. So not all fishy things just 90% fish (shrimp).

Sorry Carys missed this earlier - not sure if you can book (Steve - highlander will know) we just walked up on both occasions we ate there and it was the week before Xmas so quite busy. First time we were seated immediately, the second we had about a ten minute wait, you just give your name at the podium and they call you when table is ready.
The best bit is the Stop Forrest Stop signs on the tables, all the servers will stop for you not just yours, no danger of running out of that beer lol:d:

By the way what are hush puppies?
Think they are a sort of cornmeal deep fried in breadcrumbs - pretty tasteless really:confused2
Found this:
HUSH PUPPIES
A Southern U.S. specialty consisting of balls of cornmeal batter, seasoned with chopped onion, garlic, etc. and fried. The name supposedly originated when Southern hunters were gathered about the fire to cook the evening meal, and the dogs would start barking and begging for food. The cook would drop bits of corn meal batter and toss them to the hungry dogs with the admonition, 'hush, puppy!'"
We love Bubba Gumps - pics are making me hungry now though!

I love Forrest Gump but hate fish! I would love to go to Bubba Gumps but looking at the menu it seems there just arent enough non-fish options available.

Well, like in most US restaurants they will do most things as you ask. There are steak and chicken options that you can have without fish/seafood.
Onion ring stacks etc as appetisers that you can have as a main course.
I could easily order 2 non-fish appetisers, salad and bread and eat quite happily there - it's worth going for the atmosphere alone - JMHO

yes thats where bubba gumps is. we were there in early april, good friday actually, we went mid afternoon and only had 10 minute wait, food excellent and a great atomosphere, sometimes a server comes to your table whilst you are waiting for your food, and asks if anyone wants to answer trivia on forest gump movie which is always being shown in the restaurant. we really enjoyed it
I just came back to look at the food pics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ####

BIL visited last week and raved about how great it was (even tho' he's never even seen the film!). I'm veggie, so like the sound of the onion ring stack and DH loves fish or meat so it's definately on our 'to eat at' list!

OMG that pic looks wonderful - could just eat those now!
Pretty sure they'll accomodate my 'need' for onion rings, usually pretty obliging when you ask for something specific in the US.

I could eat them right now too!
We shared them between three of us as a starter but I wish they'd been all mine!!!! :d:
The Ranch dip was great too and the BBQ was good as well.

nope it's outside in city walk (I only know because I asked the same silly question a few months ago!!!)
Since the onion rings went down quite well, anyone for dessert?
From the Hong Kong restaurant again. Cinnamon Bread Pudding. It tasted as good as it looks!

I love dessersts, but I'm afraid any kind of bread pudding does nothing for me at all - think it's a deep rooted school dinner thing!!!
