yup - it's just over I4 from Disney World, in Kissimee. Funnily enough, we were talking about this on another group yesterday.

We went for a drive around in 2001. It's quite a nice town, more like a big estate really, and it's been designed around the idea that it's 1930, so all the houses look 'old fashioned', There is a main street with some shops, a soda fountain and a small Goodings, and I think there's a cinema. It's worth a drive around, but it's not really a 'tourist attraction'

during December they have "snow" falling in the main square and lots of the houses are all lit up with hundreds of fairy lights - magical.
There's also a small lake and a "proper" post office for stamps.
There are lots of rules and regulations about living there and most of the houses are very smart with those little white picket fences.
It's VERY close to Kissimmee, south of Orlando itself.

We love it, we went at Halloween and it was fantastic, we were made to feel very welcome. The children had their faces painted for free and they all had a go at decorating pumpkins and riding on a hay waggon.
It was just as you might imagine old time USA to be !
We sat on the edge of the lake in rocking chairs in the warm evening air.
I have friends who have been and they say it reminded them of the stepford wives !
I understand that there are lots of rules and regulations when you live there, but nobody forces you to live there !

They have a web site to give you an idea of what to expect.
I haven't got the address to hand, but you'll find it on google !

we also went and looked round the model homes - the americans we could over hear where saying they were very small houses for the money, but they looked amazing to me!

The Disney company is selling the downtown area of celebration. That would be the area where all the stores, the hotel and the movie theatre are. Disney built the down going back about10 years ago. They made a number if mistakes when they originally built the place, and it looks like now they want to unload the downtown area. There are a number of local builders that actually do the construction of the homes. Part of the sale agreement is that whoever buys it, they will have to keep it up to Disney standards. I think Disney realized they made a mistake being a landlord. They do better at running theme parks.

We've been to the farmer's market a couple of times, there. It is held every Saturday morning, along the sidewalks by the shops. It is quite nice to have a stroll and look at all the food and good for sale. This was a couple of years ago mind!

Its very nice there.

There are about 4 restaurants, an hotel, coffee shop, tearoom,take-away pizza shop, goodings supermarket, post office, 2 screen cinema, ice cream parlour and about 7 or eight shops (clothes and gifts). There is also a lake with rocking chairs, a fountain plus all the usual small town offices, high school and university.

It's very 1950's but we just love the place! We like eating in the diner on the corner and Cafe D'Antonio.

We had a drive round there earlier this year but I found it a bit creepy. I thought it was like a setting for a horror movie and daughter in law agreed. Like a film set and not a real town.

It is a bit "Stepford Wives" I must admit, but we still love going there!

i didnt relise that it was disney orientated until late last year! when we drove round it, it was just too nice to be normal :D we thought it was a place for a sect or a cult and didnt like to get out of the car!! the name of the bank "sunny bank" (or similar) just said a lot so we decided to make a quick exit before we were caught as being an outsider.

lol @ wrong we were.

edward scissorhands, kathleen turner as "stepmom" and the truman show all sprung to mind!!!

hi...
we heard about this place when i 1st went to florida.
i think it was quite new then.
we went to the cinema there as a relief from the crowds at the 1,000 screen (or whatever it is these days) AMC cinema in downtown disney...

its was a great idea as its a wonderful cinema , where the head of the person sitting in-fron of u is at u`r ankle height , so u have unrestricted viewing , u can also pull up the arm inbetween u if u r a couple / family so u can have a cuddle  or family hug...or just plain get closer to the person with the popcorn :p: i also found the sound FX to be more noticable and of a better quality than most places.

we saw a star-trek film about 3 mnths b4 it came out in the UK , only because my father is an avid fan and could wind him up...LOL!.

But he benefited because they were handing out freebies at the foyer (blueprints of the spacecraft and other stuff) that we gave to him.

as i was waiting for my partners return from the powder room , ahem! , i was getting the car ready when i saw the pavements / sidewalks , wash themselves. I was enthralled to see little sprinkler water jets , arise from the sidewalks and spray the dust off them and then sink down into the ground...quite amazing.

worth a drive around at least.

I actually found celebration quite creepy to be honest with you.

anyone seen the sign nera the lake that says

beware: dangerous alligators but the thing is there is steps coming up from the lake.

Figures?

Nice at Christmas but a bit too perfect for my liking - Stepford Wives definately springs to mind.

Seaside (http://www.seasidefl.com/communityInstitute.asp) does.

I really don't wish to discuss Halloween night as we will be flying home  Make a change to be in a plane rather than on my broomstick I supposed :D

Having read all your replies to this thread, we might give it another go and actually get out of the car this time.

We visited there on Christmas Eve during out last visit - largely so the girls (10 & 8) could see snow falling in Florida. Very synthetic but different from everything else you'll see. Drove around just to see the house decorations. Tempted to go again this year and try the restaurant and cinema.:thumbs-up

Forget to take our camera and popped into Goodings for a dispopsable. When they told me the price I felt like saying "I want to buy a camera not the whole bloomin film studio!!"

I agree with Foo Phantom! We always visit the cinema a couple of times and go for a wander around all the show homes. Most of them are pretty big and fantastic inside but a little expensive in relation to other Florida Realty. Its still cheap compared to England though. Their school and College are supposed to be amazing and its a very safe place. As they say, Location, Location, Location!!!
I'll be watching out for the automatic street washers now! I wonder if the trash cans empty themselves too? Oh no, of course they've got Raccoons for that!!!:D :D

We went a couple of times this month and it is great. The Snow falls are a big hit for the kids and they have other things on in the year like posh pooch, a must see - really. But as others have said it is not an attraction it is a real community, so you could be disappointed if you are looking for entertainment but pleasantly (vile!!!!) surprised as a afternoon stroll/trip out/change from the parks.

This is where I would love Paul and I to retire too - I love this place. I like perfection and cleanliness and I would feel so safe here.

However I had to LOL when I went to the English Tea Rooms here and saw they had lots of UK choccy bars for sale. A milky way which said 16p on the packet was being sold for $1.50 ...mmmmmm I think I'd rather have a Mousketeer for that price ;)
