You get the passes from a machine near each of the big rides. You insert your park ticket and get a voucher which has the time that you have to return for that ride.

On the rides where FP is available there's a separate bit near to the ride entry, where you can get your FP.
All you do is put your park ticket into a card reader - it then gives you a ticket for the ride - telling you when to come back & when you can get your next FP.

Hi,
The fast pass system allows you to "book" a slot to join a much shorter queue for the ride.
Most of the rides have "Fast Pass" booths next to the entrance, you just put your pass ticket into the machine & it prints a ticket with your entry time back into the ride.
It is normally 60mins to 2 hours ahead of the time you get the pass.
The trick is timing the fast passes to line up some of the rides & also if you REALLY like one of the rides - fast pass it & then join the normal queue - by the time you get out & recovered - you can get back on!
Enjoy.

A good Tip:
You can only ever have 1 valid fast pass at any one time but,
use you fast pass for a FP ride, say for eg the time to return is 12:00-13:00.
If you head for another FP ride in that park at about 12:05 you can then get a FP for this other ride and then head back to your original FP ride before 13:00,

If you are trying to do the trick of getting another FP 5 minutes into your slot for another one, do beware that if you are too early you will get a slip of paper out, but it will say "not a valid fastpass" on it. I lost count of how many people I saw waving these at a CM and then getting hacked off when they were turned away, as they hadn't noticed it when they got them.
Most notable was one "gentleman" who had one of these for Soarin' who turned to a female CM near us and yelled "Disney SUCKS!!!" right in her face. I think he was a tad upset.
