We've purchased the KSC Space Pass tickets this year (rather than the Maximum Access). We're allowed one of two tours with these passes which are: NASA Up Close Guided Tour or Cape Canaveral Then & Now Guided Tour.

For those of you who have visited KSC before could you let me know which of these tours is the best.

Many thanks.

We did the Up close tour last year and thought it was great. Hubby wants to do the Then and now tour this year but not so sure the kids and myself will enjoy it as much.
This will be our third visit this year and never found any of it too boring infact I have quite surprised myself with how much of it I have found interesting even explaining it to our boys. The Up close tour takes you closer to shuttle take off and landing areas as well as other areas.

Excellent, thanks for your reply. Apparently the shuttle will be on the launchpad while we're there which will be great. It was on the launchpad last year too but as we only had Maximum Access passes we could only see it from afar.

The Up-Close tour concentrates on the inner workings of NASA and takes you "up-close" to the VAB ( Vehicle Assembly Building ) and the closest you can get to the launch pads. Also takes you to the Shuttle runway and out to the launch viewing point where you get a great panoramic view of the whole facility.

We've done this tour twice and it's great.

The other tour is more of an historical tour. Going to places in NASA's past and looking at how the space program developed and how the Kennedy Space Centre area grew and became what it is today....

So

Up Close is for shuttle and todays activities and the future of spaceflight.
Cape Canaveral is for past space flight and history...

You takes your pick on what interests you the most.

You lucky people. Would love to see a shuttle on the pad. We were going to be there when a launch was going to happen but because of the damage done to one of the shuttles during a hailstorm they have changed all the dates and now the launch is just before we go !!!!:( :( :(

I have done both and the new up close and personal is great if you are a shuttle fan. The then and now shows the historic launching pads etc great for the 'older' :tounge: ;) visitor who can remember them.

Oh what a shame! That would have been fantastic to witness a launch. Maybe you'll be lucky another year. I'll try and get some good shots of the shuttle on the launch pad and will post my photo's on the Dibb when we get home so look out for them!

Thanks Jeff. We've decided to do the Up Close Tour. I phoned KSC yesterday and made our reservations for 28/05. We're really looking forward to it.

We would really love to do both tours! (I know, that's just being greedy ;)). We've opted for the Up Close this year so the Then and Now tour will be a great excuse to visit again next year. :d:
