Hi Guys,
I'm seeing an increasing number of links to other sites being posted for information that we actually have here on the DIBB.

Can I ask before you post that link to another disney site that you check that we do not already have the information here.

We do put a lot of effort in compiling the information on the DIBB Website pages, a lot of it has come from contributions from DIBB Members and it's a little disappointing seeing that go to waste when someone posts a link to another site.

Obviously if we do not have the information here then by all means post the link, or better still actually post the information here, that way people can read the info without having to wade through another site and the DIBB doesn't become just a link farm!

Can I also ask that if you are posting a link then you make sure the link actually goes to the page that contains the information the user is looking for, rather than just the home page or other of the linked site.

Thanks Guys :cool2:

Hi,
It's not supposed to be a slap on the wrist :D just a gentle reminder ;) :)

OK Stu.

Just one point I'm not sure if you agree or not, but I was always taught that if you post the information from another site it's always good manners to post the link to the site to acknowledge where the information came from so that you aren't accused of plagiarism.

Paul,
yes If I was copying information I would normally put the name of the source at the bottom not necessarily a link, really depends what it is.

I wasn't inferring that people should cut and paste from other sites but they could answer the question with knowledge they have gained from other sources rather than just a look here link :)

I'm more concerned with us spending time creating pages of information and seeing them being ignored in favour of a link to other sites.

As I said above this is only a gentle request to check that we don't already have the info here before posting a link. A lot of the time I suspect we won't have the info here, hopefully in time I can rectify that :)

just a comment, but i wouldnt have heard of the dibb if not for a link posted on holiday truths(a site i have frequented for a few years),and i have since recommended this site to many others.no one wants to break forum rules, but it sometimes works both ways.i only just in the last few weeks discovered the site that no one dares to mention, theres lots of good stuff on there but that doesnt mean that i frequent this site less,in fact its now my top site.i think that forum protocols can be a bit confusing for some people.i was under the impression that a website could be mentioned as long as the www. wasnt put in front and the actual website adress given.jmho. mo.

Hi,
I totally agree with you, however you are totally missing the point of my post though.

If we have a page of information HERE on the DIBB it's disappointing to see a link to another site that has the same information. (what is the point in us spending time writing the page only for it to be ignored!)

If you read my posts again you will see that I'm not trying to stop people linking to other sites, I think you have mis-read the post completely :)
