From what I understand the 4th of July is a nightmare for crowds almost everywhere. We've planned our day around getting away from the worst of it, heading to Celebration for a wee taste of a more homely 4th of July however I'm worried about dinner at night. Do all the restaurants get manic? Are there great places for a young family to eat in Celebration, especially when our youngest is unbelievable fussy and hates any of his food being mixed up with sauce, or gravy....?
Would we be better advised to head back to Disney in the evening and eat say at the Concourse Steakhouse in the Contempory Resort and watch the fireworks from up there or are there any other places that might be good for a quieter 4th of July?

The 4th July is wall to wall people and most eating places are jammed packed.
Disney does the same fireworks on the 3rd July.

The best place to go to avoid the crowds is Discovery Cove, never busy as they limit the numbers to 1000 guests per day. We did that on the 4th then went to MGM for the evening fireworks there. We saw the special MK display on the 3rd and that was busy enough for me! The fireworks at both parks are worth seeing but I wouldn't want to spend the whole day in a park, it's just too crowded.
Have the same predicament, but as I only booked the trip today I was starting at a slightly disadvantaged position with regard to food.
Still managed to get an ADR at Cinderella's Gala Feast at the Grand Floridian that evening though. Still unsure what to do during the day and then after the meal....

Lynn, Are the MGM fireworks at Fantasmic?

Stuart, the fireworks at MGM, only shown on the 4th July and New Year's Eve are Sorcery in the Sky and are shown behind the hat. Very spectacular and patriotic in red, white and blue with a great soundtrack. There is still a Fantasmic show which I think is just the usual one, nothing special for the 4th. A bit more detail in my trip report from 2005.

Thanks Lynn, sounds like a plan - although if the park gets too busy they'll close it. I guess if that happens we'll head for Boardwalk and try and see Epcot's fireworks from there.
Still not totally sure what to do for dinner but perhaps it'd be a plan to head for something like an I Hop or the Olive Garden and do it as early as possible.
