We are staying onsite with DDP and brother and family staying offsite. Can we book ADR for all 10 of us ( not everyday but may want one or two ) and pay for our part of bill with DDP and their part as cash? If we made 2 ADR and arrived together what would be the chances of

a. getting 2 booking same time?
b. setting to site together?

thanks

I already ahve our ADR doen but may try and change 1 or 2 for this as teh other family ahs only just booked.

I don't see any reason why not - we ate on the DDP a few wks ago and any side orders, drinks etc get charged in the normal way, so I see no reason why that couldn't apply equally to whole meals.
What they probably wouldn't be happy about is (for example) if you ordered less meals than the number of people (ie you tried to share your DDP meals).

Don't make 2 ADR's if you want to eat together - just make one.

i guess it wouldnt be on to pay for the whole meal with the DDP credits, as most say they struggle to use all the credits for TS

Although not on DDP i have made ADRs for 3 different families including my own. Well, we are actually all family - 15 of us - but share different surnames, 3 families....anyway lol

All Adrs are under one booking so we can sit together. As we are one large group they cannot promise that we can sit together but they will try and if not then they will it us next to each other at different tables.

This may actually be easier for you to work out your meals, one family on DDP and the other paying.

Also remeber that if your a larger group - 8 or more - that gratuity is added into all bills automatically. This was pointed out to me each time by CMs each time i made an ADR.

I had thought of that as we are 3 adults and 3 picky kids (13 years to 10
years ) who all have adult DDP and will probally not eat them anyway.

if we were to go for a meal for 10 ( 5 adults and 5 kids ) I wonder could we pay with 6 DDP then pay any extra for kids ourselves. Not trying to beat the system just hate seeing food going to waste and I know our kids will not make the most of DDP. We will probally only be having 2 table service with other family but may be using CS at same time so I guess with CS it will not really matter.

That's an interesting question!

I would guess that they'll not be keen on sharing** so all of you would need to order a starter and a main course. It depends on the staff a bit, but generally speaking they all apply the DDP rules pretty rigidly (I presume to avoid arguments later). Of course you could always charge the most expensive things to the plan and pay cash for the cheapest, but that might be a bit embarrassing to organise - however American's don't really do embarrassment, so don't worry about it!
Even on the plan, some people pass on puddings, so (again, I'm guessing) that probably doesn't matter.

NB: If you do do this sort of thing (eating with friends), then make sure the waiter who takes your initial order is aware of what you're doing, and check how you've been charged very carefully, and it's probably best to avoid charging extra's to your room. Also, they'll probably automatically add 18% to the cash part of the bill (in the same way as they do for DDP - so make sure your friends don't tip twice.
We didn't have any probs at all, but I've seen reports about people finding that the *whole* bill had been charged to their room. The server should tell you how many credits you've got after each use of the DDP.

For CS it doesn't matter - in fact some people do use counter service twice each day (like breakfast and lunch) and share their meals each time.

**Edited to add:
It's not quite the same thing, but I just looked through the posts on sharing on the DIS board, and there's thread after thread about sharing DDP credits. It seems it's standard practice for Americans to use 1 TS meal credit between 2 people! They're actually going mad that the portions are getting smaller making this option a bit less attractive.
Unsurprisingly, the waiters don't like it (it affects their tip, unless you add more), but they will do it, even bringing second plates and cutlery. However one thing Disney is clear about it that you can't aloow someone not on the plan to use your credits.
