I've never tried lobster but feel it's a must in Florida.
Can anyone tell me the best place to try it where it doesn't cost the earth in case I don't like it!
Oh and what does it taste like?

It tastes lovely, for me it's sort of a cross between crab & prawn :erm: There are many places to try it, a lot of them are all you can eat seafood!!!!! It depends on where you are staying as to which will be better for you. Red Lobster immediately springs to mind. If you are into seafood you must try the Mahi Mahi or Grouper (Fish) they are great out there.

hiya,
we had a full lobster as part of a sampler dish at festival bay. the restaurant is called dixie crossroads.
not a lot of eating in a lobster but a beautiful delicate taste.
our server showed us what to do with it as we didn't have a clue. told us which were the best bits to eat and which bits to avoid
I would suggest the red lobster - they do great combination plates of lobster and different types of prawns. The prawn/cheese combo in a big bread basket it good to share for a starter. Just don't fill up too much on the hot cheese scones - yummy but you'll end up needing a doggy bag!
We did the Boston Lobster feast once but were not impressed
I'd go with Red Lobster too. The combination platters are great - and also very big.

We all love lobster, but it can be expensive, even in Florida.
If you like crab and prawns I would think you'd enjoy it, it's a nicer sweeter taste than crab.
If you weren't going tomorrow I'd suggest going to Asda and buying one of their frozen ones. Only £5.98, so wouldn't be too upsetting if you didn't like it..
In Florida I would also recommend Red Lobster - although don't think I could pick my own out of the tank at Reception!!.
I went to a Lobster Bake in Maine and enjoyed it but thought it over-rated! Tasted to me like a sweeter, buttery white fish (cod etc) - not bothered about eating it again.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but are there any restaurants where you don't have to eat if off the shell? Where they just serve you the actual white part? I'd love to try it but am too much of a wimp to eat out of somethings exoskeleton.

Like you I had never tried Lobster but really wanted to when we last visited Florida. As I wasn't to sure if I was going to like it or not we ate at Red Lobster where I got the Chicken dish with a Lobster Tail so that if I didn't like the Lobster I still had the chicken. As it turned out I loved the lobster and could have ate more.

Sorry to hijack, but do you get mussels much in Florida? Have seen lots of mentions of prawns, crab etc, but not mussels - and they're DD8's favourite (odd I know...) :)
