Going to WDW in Feb 2008, hopefully staying Windsor Hills for 16 nights.

I'm thinking of staying a couple of nights at a monorail resort (Poly?) just to get a bit closer to the magic. I couldn't stay in a hotel room for the whole 2 weeks - I like the space and facilities of a villa - but I'm thinking it would be great to have a taste of a Disney Deluxe for a couple of days.

But - it's so expensive!!! Please help me justify the cost. What can I do by staying on site that I couldn't do off site? Also, have I got it right thinking a monorail resort would be best? What about AKL/WL?

We haven't done it yet, but we are staying in a villa just after christmas and have booked to stay concierge at Boardwalk Inn for 30th Dec and New Years Eve.
We chose this so we could stay in an onsite deluxe and chose this resort because you can walk to two parks. For us this was a really big deciding factor though as obviously it is going to be really busy which it probably won't be for you. Like you I prefer a villa, particularly as we have 3 children 10, 12 and 14 and staying in a hotel room for longer than a couple of nights would not be good for any of our sanity, but I wanted to see what the deluxe resorts can offer adn how it feels to be in the middle ofthe magic. It is expensive when compared to a villa rental (we are paying more for the two nights than we are for the villa for ten nights) but compared to other four and five star hotels it really isn't that bad - well that was my justification anyway

You are right about the price - if you compare with other deluxe hotels it is not as expensive as it first apprears. It's when you compare it to the per night for a villa & add it to your flight, car hire, tickets etc you take a sharp intake of breath!

Anyone else done this?

Resort hopping last year it was nice to spend a week in the luxury of a villa.

However we really liked the advantages of being onsite. If its a couple of nights you want to book have you thought of Boardwalk or Beach Club.
Proximity to Epcot as walking distance or a short boat trip from MGM made it an excellent base for us.

We too are doing a villa stay from boxing day with NYE booked into Beach Club so we can do Epcot celebrations...cant wait to see Xmas Disney for the first time :spin:

For sheer benefit if you want to stay on-site I would recommend a night at one of the Universal resort hotels - none of the Disney on-site benefits can compare with FOTL access. As for Disney, I would recommend one of the Epcot hotels too - Beach Club or Boardwalk, or Swan or Dolphin (you can get good deals on these two as cost is an issue) - because of the ease of walking to Epcot and MGM and you can also walk to the Epcot monorail and ride it to MK.

we have stayed in a villa for 11 nights and then onsite for 3 nights , i would definitely recommend this, it just seems more magical and also you get the EMH, plus it saves my hubby driving to and fro and gives him a rest!!!
its like another holiday!! (if you know what i mean)!!
