I want to take my mom away for a few days in the next couple of weeks and would like some recommendations please.
She has never been anywhere in Europe and I would like to take her somewhere to show her that it is not all about the younger ones staying out until the early hours.
She likes to see places of interest, shopping and will sit around a pool for a couple of hours reading a book.
I would have liked to take her to Italy but even 3/4 day short breaks are over our budget.
If anyone could give me some ideas I would be grateful.
Thanks
How about Prague, it's really cheap once you get out there and you can afford to stay in a really nice hotel for the fraction of the price over here. As long as you avoid the bar area where all the stag parties go the rest of it is lovely especially the square and bridge. We went a few years ago in July and the weather was scorching which was a bonus.

How about Portugal, never been but have heard that Lagos is lovely, not full of drunks and lots to do?

We've just come back from a long weekend in Gibraltar, and it was fabulous. We flew from Gatwick with BA, but there were other flight options. We had 3 nights b&b at The Rock Hotel which was absolutley brilliant! It was my husbands birthday so we were upgraded to a suite at the front of the hotel with stunning views, and they put Champagne in our room on his actual birthday! The restaurant was excellent, as was the bar. There was plenty to do in Gibraltar, from the apes to the cable cars, to the gardens, the harbour (fantastic restaurant called The Waterfront where we could have dinner and watch the sun setting). I think we paid about £500 for the pair of us. Well worth it in my opinion, an absolute bargain. (and only a 2 1/2 hour flight which has to be a plus!)

With cheap flights we went to Vienna for 4 days and that was really good and there is some really nice parts of Tenerife especially if you go to the northern part. Also Ibzia has really nice areas away from the tourist parts and it is really so un-discovered it surprised my husvband and I.

Amsterdam & Paris are very nice& easy to get to & the red light district is easy to avoid. Doubt she would get to chill by the pool though but both have nice parks.
Try Majorca the quieter resorts like C'an Picafort or Playa Da Muro are really nice and peaceful (especially Playa Da Muro where past midnight everyones in bed).

Not too sure where you live, but British Airways have 4 flights a week direct to Corfu from Gatwick. We're in a resort called Dassia which is really nice with a selection of tavernas and bars - it's not a youngsters resort.
Corfu Town has plenty of places of interest and the island itself has some spectacular scenery so you could hire a car for a day. You'll get the sunshine by the pool too!
Have a look at our site, there's information on Dassia and the rest of the island on there:

As it's quite close, the BA flights might be expensive now. However, you could also try flying one way out on Friday with Thomson and one way back on Monday with Thomas Cook. I'm doing that when I go back for a family party next month.

There's others that do one way flights on Friday's and Monday's too and you can easily pick up accommodation here without having to get a package.
