I am seriously considering the Fort Wilderness cabins on our next trip seeing as DS who is 19 will be joining us this time(not sure if i could stand him being in the same room as us so he can have the sofa bed lol).
Has anyone stayed in one of these cabins?
I'm also not sure if they have the same food areas like the other disney hotels do. I quite like getting the free drinks and a mug of hot chocolate at the end of a busy day :)
We stayed in the AKL last year and i feel like that hotel has spoilt us from staying anywhere else.

hi
the first thing we noticed about Fort wilderness is the size . there are internal buses but we hired a gof cart and found it a lot easier . where the cabins are you can t just walk to the dining area like other resorts , the cabins are superb , very big and lovely surroundings ,
the food at trails end buffet is great , they dont do a drinks mug like other resorts .
You take a boat to MK which is really great ,
You can watch the fireworks from the beach and there is a floating light parade which is really good,

I went for a nosey there is Feb. It is a lovely resort and I would love to stay there in the slef catering cabins.
The cost wouldnt worry me too much but I think I would like to be offsite this time - just to be in "America" and not "Disneyland" the whole time.
Otherwise I would aty there.
We stayed with our teenagers on our first visit to WDW. They had the bedroom which had 2 beds. We had the murphy bed in the lounge which pulle down out of the wall.
We found it a great time saver being able to eat breakfast as each of us showered in turn, and it did save a little money not eating every meal out.
The kitchen was well stocked with microwave and dishwasher and the maid used to fill and/or empty the d/w.
You could sit outdoors on the porch and there was a bbq.
We didn't have a rental car until the second week when we left for the Florida Keys but we did have a golf cart which the teens loved and still talk about now. The bus service was very good but it could take a long time to get to some of the resorts.
We were near one of the pools and a laundry room and went to Trails End one night to eat which was ok.
You may want to consider a resort which has a more central area if your teenager would like to meet others of the same age but so saying ours did chat to others at the pool.

Fort Wilderness cabins is my favorite place to stay on-site though that view is rarely held by most people staying in on-site.
They are great for families as the kids have their own room with a double bed and a bunk bed which includes a tv. You have a bbq outside the cabin which is cleaned everyday plus wild animals all about. I never pre-book any restaurants in wdw or plan ahead so I find the setting in the Fort Wilderness very relaxing.
They do have refilable mugs which can be used for tea & coffee in the shop or the full range of drinks in Trails End which does a great big take away breakfast which includes Mickey waffles - I think this is the cheapest food you can get anywhere on site.
If your unsure about Fort Wilderness you can always visit the place when you go on holiday for and take a stroll around and take in the night time film or daytime bingo, etc and change your resort when your there or not If you don't like the look of it.

Hi
Just a thought!
The cabins at Fort Wilderness are a lot more expensive than the rooms at a Value Resort.
1 Bed Villa from $462 - $635 per night depends on season
2 Bed Villa from $657 - $1026 per night depends on season
A better option would be either 2 rooms at a Value Resort at
2x Rooms at $92 - $145 per night depends on season or
A Value Suite at $202 - $299 per night depends on season
Hope this helps you decide, Regards, AJAXON.

I think your looking at the Wilderness Lodge villas though I might be wrong.
Taking a quick look at the rack rates Its $249-365 (+tax) though you used to get them a lot cheaper with a good code.
I will admit you should also factor in the daily golf cart fee which I can't remember the exact price but its about $40-$50 a day which does bump It up quite a lot.
We love FW - it's our fave place to stay onsite. Stayed there a couple or 3 times and managed well without a golf-cart. I think one would have been very handy if we had had small children with us though.
If you're going to be there in the US school hols, there are lots of families with off-spring of all ages who stay there with their own trailer-homes. Neither of the swimming pools is themed but I don't consider this to be a problem. Canoes and bikes can be rented. The petting farm is only for small children and, even then, has been considerably "down-sized" in stock since we first went there. I would say that, even for small children, it's not really worth a visit. (I know your children are grown up now!)
Trails End used to pizza to take away in an evening. It may have been after 9pm. But I don't know whether they still do. The food is quite nice - not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination - just plain home cooking - but plenty of it. We go there at least once but mainly for the atmosphere of the whole of the resort and not the food.
As DH and I are not "sleepers-in", we used to take the Murphy bed in the living room and the others slept in the bedroom. Sadly we never had enough time for a bbq but it would have been a nice thing to do.
We find transport around WDW generally takes so much time that we always have a car. The car park is at one end of the resort and the restaurant/shop/Hoop-de-Do area is at the other end. I think in total the distance between the two is about one and a quarter miles. But there are buses around the resort so no problems there for us. On check in, you can take your car to the cabin, unload it and then take it to the car park. It's a lovely place to walk around (under the trees - woodsy feel) which we did quite often.

We went to the Hoop De Doo last year, and took the bus from the carpark to the theatre. We were very impressed with the look of Wilderness Cabins - my DH desperately wants to stay in one. The size of the resort puts me off a little, and I think I would be too tight to rent the golf-cart, but it did look beautiful and very peaceful.

Thank you so much for all your replies, we are hopeing to go around this time next year so lots of great planning to do.
We are thinking now of having a week on site and a week off as we have just heard of a new hotel which is opening January 08 called Lake Buena Vista and Spa which sounds really nice.
