hi, off to vegas in a few weeks time for 2 weeks. although i've been before for a week a few years ago we didn't get round to doing very much as we were getting married over there and we had wedding to arrange then we both fell ill. did manage to do grand canyon though.
any advice would be appreciated. especially on where to go at night. not really into night clubs, prefer bars and lounges. thanks x

There was a dueling piano bar in the new york new york hotel which we enjoyed. There was also a coyote ugly type bar there if you want something a bit livelier. Also

Try looking at the las vegas power pass, we had one of these and just about got our money's worth out of it but it is good to give you some ideas of where to go and what to do.

Also check out Fremont Street Experience Light and Sound show, we haven't been but I've heard good reports about it and it's free.

Have a lovely time

We loved the shows in Vegas. And the casinos....and the Shelby factory (worth avisit if you like Cobra cars. We had two lovely days out at Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead. Both are only a short drive away. If you don't have a car there are lots of coach trips to take you.

The Harley Davidson cafe is worth goung into. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe and a Cheesecake Factory in the shops at Caesars Palace.

Oh I wish we were going again soon..........

We did a trip report, you may get some ideas from it. It's linked to my signature.

Have a great time :D

Dinner at the top of the Stratosphere I would say is a must ,its exepnsive but truly amazing .
Great food at the Outback Aussie style steak house opposite Mirage , get a window seat and you can watch the eruptions .

You gotta do the O show at Bellagio , best show on earth

We trip to the top of the Eifel Tower - great view of the strip in all directions. The Siren show outside the Treasure Island Hotel and of course the wonderful fountains at the Bellagio. Freemont Street to see the lights but dont walk there.

If it is still there, try the tangerine bar at Treasure Island, they do amazing tangerine coctails. Also the Ghost bar, there is fantastic views of the whole of Vegas as it's on the roof of a hotel (sorry cant remember which hotel, but google it).

Oh you lucky thing, we went ages ago it's wonderful, I'd love to go back one day.
We found that theres so much to see that we had very little time for actually doing anything in particular if you know what I mean! But with two weeks, you'll beable to take in more.
Definately go up the Stratosphere tower, great views, rides and eats. We did a night flight over Vegas too which was good. Make sure you explore all the hotels, as all have so much to offer and there are some great retail outlets too if you're into shopping.
Have a fantastic time, I'm really envious.

Like Jools we really enjoyed Red Rock Canyon and the Hoover Dam. It was such a contrast to Vegas and added a bit of a different slant to our holiday. We hired a car for 3 days which was great because it also helped with visiting outlets and carrying the shopping! We stopped off on the way to the Hoover Dam to have breakfast at Boulder Station, which was really good value.

I've recently come back from my 4th visit to Vegas and have already booked for March next year.

The bad news is that at the moment there is a lot of building work going on so in places the strip resembles a large building site.

There is work at the Venetian and at Wynn's they are both building apartment type blocks which are becoming as popular as hotel rooms at the moment. There is also a lot of work going on next to the Monte Carlo.

Be careful if the forecast for strong winds as the dust and sand coming from these sites is a dreadful problem so make sure you have your glasses ready in hand.

That's the bad side everything else is just fabulous.

I would strongly recommend a meal at the Top of the World restaurant - it is expensive, we paid about £160 for 3 of us, we only had an entree followed by liquer coffees, a bottle of wine and 2 glasses of red wine. It was lovely, we had a window view and were there just as the sun was setting. We went on a Sunday so not very busy, you do need to book to be sure of a seat. You can request a window seat but you can't pre-book.

We also sat down on the patio at Wynn's for cocktails, again not cheap but very relaxing.

The bar at the Ballagio - I can't think of the name but it's near the piano is also very nice, great cocktails.

Lot's of places to eat including Changs chinese which is in the Planet Holiday (was Aladdins)

You don't say where you're staying but every hotel has a range of restaurants from MacDonalds to buffet's to steak houses. I can recommend the Italian in the Excalibur - delicious!!

I have copied below some hints from Vegas Johnny I found these quite useful even though I didn't get to them all.

We've booked into the Signature at MGM apartment for our holiday next year and can't wait - I love Vegas it's Disney for grown ups!!

heres some vegas tips for you ..........................

If Celine is on at Caesars go and see her , best show in vegas . try and book before you go . when she is taking a break Elton plays , this is another fantastic show. The Cirque shows are a must . my favourite 2 are , the new beatles one called Love and the other called O . try and see them both , fantastic . again book before you go .
there is a beatles tribute band at Alladin called Fab Four , fantastic , sound just like them . there is a half price ticket place next to the big coke bottle next to MGM , but you dont get reduced tix for headliners such as Celine. tix sell from noon onwards , get there early

there are 2 bars/lounges that you must go to for the views
Mix lounge , which is at the top of "The Hotel" , which is next door to mandalay bay , no cover charge before 9pm . stunning views , patio area and music .
Voodoo lounge which is at the top of the Rio hotel . there is a coupon on the rio website that gives free admission before 9pm . this place is fantastic you will love it . order a witch doctor drink . $27 but is in a huge goldfish bowl and you can share , lovely ! views great , patio and dancing

if you like 80`s music , friday night at the house of blues in mandalay bay has a 80`s night with a great disco and a very good band . good fun . the same venue on saturday nights has a seventies band playing called boogie nights , another excellent night , music sounds great . get there for both nights around 11.30 pm ends around 3.30am

newyork newyork hotel has a great duelling piano bar from 8pm nightly . very good . $10 cover friday and saturdays only , rest free . the same hotel has an irish bar which has a band playing nightly . out of this world . you will be dancing . free cover except friday and saturdays which is $5

go and do a helicopter grand canyon tour its great . the airplane one is crap , you fly too high. try and do the new skywalk there . you walk out on a glass bridge

do the alladin lunch buffet at the spice market , $18 but so much choice and best in vegas

circus circus has a steak restaurant called "the steak house" . beat in vegas belive me . requires a booking , so book before you go . dont be put off by the dump of a hotel its in , this is a truly great steak house

the best free elvis tribute show is at the barbary coast hotel . 3pm to 4pm then 5pm to 6pm wednesday to friday , 2 different sets . he is known as big elvis weighs 40 stone , but sounds just like elvis , alot of fun .

I don't think anyone has mentioned the Liberace Museum that houses his collections of rare and antique pianos, classic cars, famous sequined, costume wardrobe, glittering stage jewelry, rare antiques and as well as his private papers and memorabilia. It's so cheesy but fascinating at the same time. The stewards are his (by now very elderly) fans and talk to you for ages as long as it's about Liberace. His costumes and cars are a sight to behold.

Also about LV -We were not prepared for the heat and found ourselves going from one air conditioned place to another. It's so much hotter that Florida for example. We couldn't walk anywhere and found ourselves taking the car very short distances.
