I think this depends on where you want to eat, the restaurants in the hotels can be abit more expensive than, restaurants on the strip.
If you look at lasvegas.com, you can get a good idea of whats avalible, you can also view menu's for the restaurants.
if youve been to florida before(im assuming you have), the prices are roughly what you would pay there.

The prices for the buffetts in the Paris hotel, Bellagio and Mirage ( all nice bufetts )are around $28 dollars a person including soft drinks. There are many fab "signature" restaurants in the hotels that are VERY expensive!
At down town you can get some cheaper meals but I haven't eaten there so canno recommend.
We normaly eat breakfast at the buffets and have a snack in the evening or the other way around. If you are playing in the casinos once you get on the cocktail "waitresses loop" she comes round very 15 mins or so !! $1 a drink tip and she comes round all night !We sit on the machines playing and have a very good night for $20 !! and usually win LOL ( small)
Cabs can take a long time ( + cost ) as at the weekend it is very busy on the strip. You can either get a bus $2 each that goes up and down the strip or walk !
Cabs in Vegas are the of the most heavily regulated cabs in the world. But one small trick they play - When you come out of the airport ask for your hotel not via the tunnel. That is a very long underpass that unecessarily adds $20 to your journey ! I read about that on another Vegas board.

WE went fro 5 nights in Feb just DH & I & we spent approx$1500 in cash I think.
Didn't use a cab. Got a shuttle bus to the airport , think it cost $ 12 each very quick & easy.
Used the monorail or walked. For the monorail we bought a book of 10(Ithink) tickets which worked out a little cheaper than paying each trip.
On our last full day we also used the trolley bus which was even cheaper but took alot longer than the monorail.
Stayed at the Luxor & ate at their breakfst buffett & it was very nice but the best breakfast buffet we went to was at the Paris hotel. You definately don't need to eat lunch afterwards!
Buy bottled water from Walgreens much cheaper than the hotel & it will be hot in July.
The best burgers we ate was at a bar/restaurant situated between the Luxor & the Manalay Bay they are joined by a parade of shops & bars. It was called the Burger Bar I think. They have set burgers or the option to build your own. It's worth a visit for their sweet potatoe fries!
Ellis Island Casino has great food offers and the locals eat there, so it can't be bad, they have a website to look at their menus.

Some of the higher end places (Bellagio / The Venetian etc) are fabulous but there really is no need to pay the premium. The majority of the other hotel/casino buffets are generally very good for breakfast and dinner.
Taxis are very expensive by comparison to other places in the US I have been. The volume of traffic on the strip also means that they are not very efficient. Las Vegas has a monorail system which links most of the main hotels and casinos and there is a good bus service. You will definitely save some money if you make use of these.
Souvenirs are nearly all tourist tat! Avoid if you have any sense!

You can't go very wrong with the dinner buffets at Harrahs ("Flavors") and Luxor ("Pharoahs Pheast"). Both really excellent choices of hot meats, vegetables and foods from around the globe (including prawns by the bucketload!) and the Harrahs sweets collection is fabulous. Both cost around $75 for a family of four - about $42 for two adults.
Best buffet we ate was in Main Street Station downtown. Cost $52 for the four of us and, because we went on Tuesday night, there was as much T-bone steak (cooked to order) as you like!!! Really - you can't beat that, can you? ;)

If you're going any distance in a taxi, ask to travel via one of the roads that run parallel to The Strip. We got a cab from Mandalay Bay to The Flamingo in the busiest part of the evening, and we went down Koval Lane (I think). It cost us $11. Had we gone via The Strip, I'm sure it would have been nearly double that.

A lot of hotels have Food Court areas in them. We stayed at the Luxor and used their food court a lot. It included a McDonalds, Little Caesars Pizza Bar, Ice Cream Parlour and Nathans Hot Dogs. YOu can eat at these type of places really cheaply, then splurge on one or two fab restaurants.

There is a dennys right next to the stratosphere,on your way towards downtown vegas, its alot quieter than the ones further up and the service is pretty good and there very friendly.Theres soo many different types of buffets to choose from that you will be spoilt for choice, but if you are on a budget theres always panda express very yummy chinese and next door is mcdonald which are both situated next to harrahs.
Your eyes will be bigger than your stomach!!!!
One place you should try is Circus Circus Steakhouse Sunday Brunch. Its $28.99 per person and is a sort of buffet. You get unlimited Champagne, fresh orange or a mix of the two, plus soft drinks. You then get to choose between a filet steak, prime rib, sirloin, lamb chops mmm, chicken and fish, cooked to how you like it. While you are waiting for the main dish to come you pick things up from the buffet, such as fresh omlettes , all the usual breakfast stuff, plus all manner of seafood, asparagus, baby carrots, garlic mash and lobster mash, salads,a couple of chinese dishes, sushi, theres also a chef slicing beef and turkey. Plus all manner of puddings and pancakes freshly cooked. (My daughter loves the massive strawberrys coated in white and milk chocolate resembeling a tuxedo, understand these are very expensive if bought seperatly elsewhere. Cheese and crackers rolls and butter. By the time your ordered dish arrives its really hard to find the room for it. It does get very busy, we always book before we get to Vegas. The dining times are 9am, 11.30.and i think 1/1.30. We find once we have eaten this we hardly eat anything for the rest of the day. Try it if you can im sure you will love it. :)

Can vouch for the cocktail waitresses, most normal americans seem to tip about 75 cents, I tip $1.50 for 2 drinks for me and the wife, drinks all night then for ****** all really.
I love the buffets as well , you can fill up for not much money. Down the strip opposite Circus Circus is a an awesome diner type place with a log fire but I can't remember the name, massive portions and good food.

Two good buffets I found were the Sunday Brunch in the Mirage (with champagne) and if you want a cheap meal The Buffet at the next door Treasure Island, go just before 11am and you will pay the Breakfast price of $12 (although its only $15 after this) and can eat from US, Chinese, Italian and various other national dishes.
Overall food is very cheap compared to home if on budget try the Fashion Mall (opposite the Wynn) where you can have three chinese dishes and rice/noodles for about $7 or eat at various other outlets equally as cheaply.
Beer can be expensive in LV running at London prices quite often. If you fancy a drink try the $1 Micholob bottles at Casino Royale or their refreshing Margharita cocktails (in a plastic cup) for a $1.
Taxis will cost a bit running at about $12 from one end of the strip to the other (they always took the back streets with us), there is the Monorail for $8 a day although getting to the stops can involve endless walking through casinos. Never tried the strip bus/tram.

We found prices in Vegas slightly more than in Florida where we usually go, but not too much so. If you eat in the hotels, you can usually find a restuarant to suit every price budget.
There are some lovely souveniers to be had particularly in The Luxor if you like Egyptian things. We bought a couple of beautiful statuettes and there are a couple of good Malls on the outskirts too , both easily reached by bus.
It will be very very hot, so take plenty of water with you every time you venture outside. Easily the hotest place I've every been to.
Have a great time, I'm really envious,
We were given a voucher booklet from our hotel with money off their buffet - 2 for 1 / half price etc. The pizza was great from MGM in the part that looks like a movie set. Eat as cheaply with the buffets as you can and play roulette with the rest, give lucky 19 a try. I love Vegas!!!!!!!!

There is a gorgeous restaurant in Caesars Palace, "italian" - wonderful food, great atmosphere and good cocktails.
Hope you have a wonderful time, I dont know anyone who has been to Vegas and not fallen in love with the place.
