Help! I've been searching on the Web and spotted a New York See It All Tour with this company. It looks really good, has loads of stops where you can get out and take photos etc - I thought if we did it the day after we arrive, it would give us a real feel for the City.
Has anyone been on one of these tours? If so, what did you think of it?

We used the Grayline tour bus for our first trip to New York this March. It was brilliant, we bought a 48 hours ticket and chose the downtoon loop which covered Times Square, Empire State Building, Macys, City Hall, Greenwich Village, China Town, Little Italy, World Trade Centre, Statue of Liberty etc, Rockafellar (majority of the main sights) You got off at whatever stop you wanted and waited at the same bus stop to get back on. The buses came pretty frequent too.
Even if you don't want to get off, if you sit on the top open deck you can get pretty decent pictures, although it is pretty cold if you go in winter.
I would highly recommend this kind of thing to familiarise yourself with New York and avoid the tube.

It was one of the worst tours in New York i have ever experienced...very hurried the Guide talked away from the crowd we had to keep saying can you repeat,it was a waste of a Morning..the Big Red Bus Tour is much better get on and off at your leisure and take time with your guide book much better

As Tink mentioned before, the Greyline open top bus tour was fantastic! We had a 48 hour ticket, and did the 3 loop tours over the 2 days. We went at Christmas so did the christmas lights tour aswell. If you get a chance to know who is the guide on which bus, Fabrice was our tour guide and what he didn't know about New York wasn't worth knowing!! But whichever you decide, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. New York is just one of those places that lives up to expectations!

We did the red bus tour on a previous trip and didn't really like it. Our guide on the Party Shuttle was lovely. She kept us all together and made sure we could all hear her. We did the afternoon tour though - don't know if that makes any difference but we did not feel rushed. Isn't it strange how we have different interpretations of what should be the same! We also looked at photography tour where you go round NY with a professional photographer and he takes your piccie at various places to record your visit. That looked good too.

Thanks for the info everyone!
For more specific tours, consider these people. We did the Central Park walking tour and it was a highlight of our stay. Depends on the weather, obviously!!
