Do any dibbers book hotels based on reviews on trip advisor, Just booked a hotel in Cuba which gets 4.5 / 5 ratings then as soon as I book the next review is a 1.

There has been some talk about false postings and reviews from rival hotels etc. also hotels posting their own reviews from "guests". I am not sure how true it is though.

I wouldnt take much notice of a 1 if the consistent scoring are 4.5/5.

I do use it but not exclusively.

Tbh I take views of Dibbers more seriously.

Have you tried looking at http://www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk/ There are some hotels in Cuba on there and yours may be included - these are reviews from UK holidaymakers and I tend to favour these over the tripadvisor reports.

I always use Trip Advisor as a reference but not the be all and end all.

There's probably not a single hotel that doesn't have a bad review on TripAdvisor. The very nature of service organisations is that some time or other someone will have a disappointing experience for whatever reason. And the nature of us human folk is we're more likely to write something bad than something good. I've taken to writing reviews on TripAdvisor of places I've stayed at - especially is they are good places since it can only serve to help others.

I would not use tripadvisor as my deciding factor, however a consistantly
badly reviewed one I would avoid also lots of reviews that complain about similar things. I may favour a hotel that has consistant good reviews though.

Take heed though there are a lot of people that moan about hotels because they want extremely high standards of care and attention, whilst at the same time have very very thin wallets.

the amount of times I have read 2 I only paid $40 for the room BUT I expected more of this hotel.

I use tripadvisor as a guide, I'm not bothered if there are some bad reviews as long as the majority are good after all you can't please everyone all the time and there are some real moaners out there!

Take the trip advisor reviews with a pinch of salt...it's sometimes like people are talking about different hotels the reviews are soooo different...a prime example on trip advisor is the Comfort Inn LBV in Orlando...loads of dibbers have stayed there and loved it...yet it gets slated big time....

I always use Trip Advisor just to see what the general opinion of a hotel is. I wouldn't book a hotel until I had checked it out on this site - sad I know.

i am a local expert on trip advisor for palma nova and it is noticed and being dealt with ppl who run/own hotels putting good info on their own hotel and also putting bad false info on others so i would not worry too much

I can vouch for Neil being a very good expert on trip advisor...lol he gave me advice on my sons holiday to Magaluf and I never even knew he was a dibber at the time....

I entirely agree with this... :) Most people will complain rather than say something is great, It is a way of venting :mad2:

I think it is safe to say that if you see somewhere that has great reviews then it will more than likely be great! We have booked a little Resort in the Keys for our last 3 days before we come home in Nov and I checked it out on Trip Advisor. Every report is good :D Very unusual but hopefully it will actually be as great as people say it is.....

Other ones I looked at would have NOTHING good to say about them. I think then if nobody thinks anything positive about it then it is likely best to stay away! :spin:

have to say on the strength of trip advisor and holidays uncovered we changed our holiday from spain to kefalonia. i'm glad we did kefalonia was heavenly! i'm not knocking all spain but the reviews of the hotel at roquet de mar were consistently awful :(

Dont know why,as hotel gets pretty good reviews, but I am getting sneaky feelings I may have made a mistake in booking Varadero, Hope not, I can always blame the family it was a joint choice.

Reading some of the reviews on Trip advisor for a hotel in MSP put me off staying at one hotel but i tend to read through all the reviews & cross check it with another website just to make sure.
Having read some of the reviews of previous hotels i've stayed & worked in, i would say that they have been pretty accurate.

I use TA as a reference and try to make a balanced opinion on the place I am looking at. Use the reviews but also follow the forum posts about the particular hotel your interested in. The problem is that one persons palace is anothers bedsit.

Last year we stayed at a hotel in the Maldives that was judged to be 'the best in the world' and I have to say it really was. I posted a positive review on TA about my experience, only for it to be followed by someone who couldn't say one good thing about the same place :confused2 At least I enjoyed spending a fortune :d:

I look all the posts and not just the over all score. Americans tend to expect the world and mark something low that isn't really a big deal.

I have used TA for the last 5 years to plan our holidays but I don't view it as the ultimate and only review.
So saying though I booked numerous hotels on our 3 week tour of California, etc and all the hotels were as good or better than reviewed. The 2 or 3 overnight stops we left to chance were not as good.
I use the TA forums too as you get the local people on them who are much more objective and can really give you good advice on their 'patch'.

We went to Rome recently and my husband booked the holiday. He relied upon Trip advisor and a hotel that had 5 as its rating. Luckily for us the hotel was everything that the reviews on Trip Advisor had said. We were so pleased, however, I would not rely on just one site, check around and get the general feel of reviews for a hotel. People are more likely to grumble than write complements.
