I was just wondering what vaccinations you all got for going to Mexico. Ive had a bit of contradictory advice - even falling out with the nurse at mums practice

According to all the medical websites and my doctor and my dads doctor we need, an up to date tetanus, Hep A, Typhiod and Anti-Malaria tablets.

According to mums practice she only needs Hep A and nothing else, including anti malaria tablets ?

I know that i have to go with the medical advice and not asking anyone on here for medical opinions lol but just if you have been, did you get all these injections ? Im worried mum wont be covered.

I had to speak to her nurse as im taking mum and dad as a surprise, they havnt known for months where they are going on holiday but not to where, but had to tell them about getting injections. One of the nurses at her practice was brill on the phone and really great but then i got a call from another who told me that i should plan my holidays better and i have caused her nothing but bother trying to do this without mums knowledge. What knowledge, mum knows the vaccinations she needs, she just doesnt know the destination. I told the practice the destination for mums records.

Dads practice were great too.

Sorry about there lol, just want to know if mums going to be covered ok.

For Malaria it depends where in the country you will be , there is no risk in the big resort areas but some parts of Mexico are affected by Malaria.

Tetnus I would recomend along with Hep A

its so confusing isnt it ?

If we were all getting the same jabs i wouldnt be worried but as mum isnt getting them all im just wary thats all.

We are off to Hualtolco (sp?) Not as built up as Cancun, very much 'real' mexico as we just want laze by the pool ans sea before our mad 2 weeks in Orlando.

It wont harm her to take the anti malaria would it ? I guess Hep A is the biggie and thats the one she is getting. Was just panicking as she isnt getting the Typhoid as id hate something to happen.

We were originally off to NY the cruising but i couldnt get decent flights to tie up with the ship and our dates so Mexico here we come.

:wavey:

We went to Cancun in 2000 and I'm pretty certain I didn't have any jabs and I didn't come back with anything nasty.......well except the BF (who is now the exBF!!!) :d:

He wasn't really nasty, just not as lovely as my DH ;)

We are going to Mexico as part of a cruise and our local nurse has advised us on Hep A. I have been to Mexico before (San Miguel De Allende) and I had a Typhoid injection then too.

The nurse said you can actually get (adults not kids) a combined typhoid and hep A injection although she told us she would look into it for us and work out if we needed it for the cruise. If we did she would add it to the prescription and put the prescription to the local chemist.

When I got to the chemist to pay the prescription she had obviously decided against Typhoid as the only injections there were Hep A for all of us.

Another confusing thing is I had read that you shouldn't give Hep A to kids under 16 but when I checked this with the Pharmacist she assured me (after checking) it was a junior dose and would be fine!

ALL THE BEST!!!

when we went last month, my boyf had typhoid, hep A, and a booster of the one you get when your small, and malaria tablets. I never had any because of my allergy to tetnus and protein in injections. I was fine, he was fine so i personally dont think they are a big issue, and we stayed in the yacutan area. i saw my consultant (gastro) and he said that the malaria tablets can make you quite ill if they dont agree with you so i never took any of them either.

i am so jealous of you going - i would be back there in a flash!!

I also went to Mexico May 3005 and didn't have any jabs although my boyfriend did. I don't think they are a necissity, but there are some that are recommended.
