Help! My DH has just won a trip to Lapland for the midnight sun party. We fly from Heathrow on Wednesday morning to Helsinki and then up to Kittila go to the hotel then on to an out door party to celebrate the midnight sun (longest day of the year) That lasts till 3am. We get up next morning have breakfast and then fly home about 12 arriving back at Heathrow at 5.30pm. what I don't know is how cold it will be. It said on the email he was sent that the evening might be chilly and we should wear walking shoes , but what is chilly . Do I need a coat or is a fleece jacket going to be enough. I know that in the winter its Cold but they have mild summers Any one got any ideas please

I have worked on Finland a couple of times, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to see the midnight sun. Apparently it can get quite warm during the day, mid 20°C isn't unusual. But it can get chilly, I would be inclined to take a woolly or fleece. The Fins are a tough race, if they say chilly, they mean it, take my word.

Both times I went it was early March and one day the temperature went down to -22°C in Helsinki, god knows what it was up in Lapland :D

We've been north of the Arctic Circle in Finland in July. The day we visited it reached 23 degrees. The temperature was cool at night but no more than a fleece was required. However we were definately not out at 3am :D

Hi,

I work for a Finnish company and have had the pleasure of taking customers to Lapland a few times. Always when the snow is there though, never for the midnight sun.

Check out a weather search for the area, I reckon about 10 - 15 degrees pretty cold.

The scenery is amazing you will love it! Enjoy yourselves

Thanks for all your replies. I decided that I needed to find out a bit more from the people my DH had won this with , so I rang the girl today. She was really nice . She went to the same thing last year and said that she just had a light weight jacket and she was fine. I'm gonna make sure I have a few layers and my fleece, that way I can take bits off if I'm to hot. Better that being to cold. She said It is really amazing with a meal laid on and Vodka cocktails all night. I'm not a big drinker but I think I will manage a few! :d: Think we might be shattered by Sunday. We get back from Lapland at 5.30pm Thursday then have to be at Gatwick at 7am Friday to go to Denmark to Legoland for the weekend. Glad I took Monday off work
