Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before but i couldnt find it.

I found out today that you are only able to bring goods (other than alcohol, cigarettes etc) back to the value of £145 from the US:

customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageTravel_ShowContent&id=HMCE_PROD_010220&propertyType=document

Do you know how expensive the duty is and how much hassle it is to pay? I'm not sure how much clothing etc i'll buy in florida but dont want to be too limited.

Hi Swede,
there will not be a lot of time to shop with all the parks and restaurants you plan to visit, so you should not worry too much :pgig:

£145 is $300 each - we are a family of 4 so that's $1200 to spend, while we do a fair bit of shopping we don't spend $1200 so we have never worried about the duty, but what you are supposed to do is to inform customs as you return to the UK and they will tell you what you owe.

Ive never had a problem with excess. We always take an extra case home. but buy alot of clothes etc and mostly wear alot of things before we come home.
