View Full Version : Lost Posts
Guys,
The server move that we did today seemed to fail :( we had to move things back to the original server.
Unfortunately we lost a few hours of posts from today, so if you can't find your post and it was made sometime today (monday) then it's probably lost.
Apologies for the loss, but unfortunately it was unavoidable, the whole database became corrupt and we had to restore from this mornings backup.

I didn't realize that checking to see if the Dibb was up would hinder your work...sorry

The backup is ok, it was the new server software that caued the problem when we moved it

That's ok :) It's a bit like trying to push start a car with all the passengers still onboard, if all the passengers get out then it's easier on the engine to start :)
Next time I'll lock the doors ;) :D

Are there versions of Apache, PHP or mySql I should avoid then? ;)
Been caught myself before.

Mick, leave it a few hours and http://www.thedibb.co.uk/ will work again.
Looks like your ISP cached the other Server whilst we were reconfiguring the DNS

It's hard to say as every setup is different - we have been trying to trace an intermittent rise in load on the server, having tried most things, like different versions of PHP, Mysql combinations, different Kernels, etc, we thought it was the 64Bit OS that we were using, today was changing this to a new server with 32 Bit. but the load was consistently higher with the 32Bit. So it's back to the drawing board.
It's not a major fault but It's one of those niggling faults that takes ages to track down as it sometimes doesn't repeat itself for days/weeks.

Sorry things didn't work out Stu & Co:(
I've noticed in some posts that photo's posted are just blank squares now - though if you click on the bar at the top of the pic, to view image full size, (which is still there) you can then see the photo in the same way as before - eg, on Micks post, all I get is a pale blue photo-sized square. Is this something to do with the Gremlins the site encountered? Or is it my pc:erm:

I've lost yesterday's PMs too.
Stupid gremlins. Sorry it didn't work out. Server upgrades are no fun. :nonono:

What a great mental image that conjurs up! Big DIBB wagon packed full of dibbers hanging out of doors, windows, sitting on roof etc going uphill with Stu and the boiler room gang pushing and shoving and puffing and panting behind!!! :pgig: :pgig:
I also got the blue Apache screen last night when I tried to check back. Sorry it didn't go as planned Stu, better luck next time :)

Sue,
can you link to an example please

Stu - not sure how to link and show you- I did a test in Guest services, using one of my pics from the gallery - when I posted, all I can see is a square of green, normal size for a photo, with the usual message bar at the top - when I click on the bar, as normal, it opens up and shows the photo on a new 'tab', but it seems other Dibbers can see it in the 'normal' way - Oh, and I can view the pics in the gallery, no problem - so I guess it must be something to do with settings or something, on our PC:erm: I noticed it when I looked at the photo thread for WDW pics - it seems to be happening with some (but not all) of photo's that are hosted in the Dibb Gallery:(

Edited to add - lol at the pm's - the couple I sent and received yesterday are gone - plus I was a good girl yesterday, and spent ages clearing out my pm sent box - and the whole lot were back again this morning:pgig:
Sue,
if it's the pictures that have been resized then it might be a Javascript problem in your browser

Thanks Stu - I'll get Sean to check it out - its odd, I resize all my pics for the gallery with pixresizer, but only some of them are affected, and only in posts, not in the gallery:erm:
Love Suexx
Oh dear sorry it didn't work :( glad to have you back though ;)
Sue I didn't mean you resizing them, The forums auto resize pictures that are above our set limits - these have a bar at the top that you can click to see the full size picture. If it is just these that are causing a problem then it could be javascript
OMG...This is all over my head  Sorry it didn't work out like you had planned Stu, but I'm sure you will sort it eventually. Thanks for trying and for keeping the Dibb up to spec so we can all enjoy it to the max xx

Sorry I tried getting in last night but didn't know that you were changing servers. So I got the message which said you were down and left.

Stu, have you tried separating the DB server and the web server? Before going to load balancing and clustering this simple change always seems to give the best performance increase/overhead reduction. The 64bit OS is way better suited to the MySQL server, but less condusive to web apps.
