Following on from my other thread about NY..

The Waldorf Astoria's price went up by £100 in a matter of 2 days.. Ooerr  Sooooooo bit the bullet tonight and booked the Millenium Hilton for 3 nights . :tounge: ( ALOT Cheaper than the Waldorf - Got a real good price for a weekend, INC flights. )

Soooo my question.. Anyone stayed here ? Any good ? Got any pics ?

Cheers. :wavey:

Fantastic choice - you 'll love it.
Posted this reply in your previous thread but just as a reminder - e-mail them before you go and ask for a high floor room facing Brooklyn Bridge. Take the AirTrain/Subway from airport and back again.
Check out the hot wings at Mudville 9. Didn't take any pics but there are plenty on Trip Advisor reviews lately.

" Stayed here recently for eight nights.
Pick a high floor corner room facing Brooklyn Bridge and not only will the view be superior but you will be away from the construction noise, admittedly with the window closed it isn't too noticeable from high up anyway.
It's all in Trip Advisor but yes, its a superb choice, spotlessly clean, with in-room safe, 42" flat tv, subway station outside the door, walking distance to Tribeca and the financial district bars - and usually good value for money.
Admittedly the week before we visited a family were followed across from GZ, up the elevator into their room, tied up with duck tape and robbed by an armed gunman, but that can happen anywhere right ?
We would definitely stay there again, especially as you can take the Air Train / Subway straight to the hotel from JFK so cheaply.
If I can tell you anything just ask. "

we stayed here in 2003 and were going to book it again for next year but Waldorf was £500 cheaper!

Anyway, the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are gorgeous! We had a big plasma TV in our room! Word of warning though on whether you might want this or not, our hotel room looked out directly onto Ground Zero. Some people might find this a bit disturbing so really depends on whether you want this or not.

We stayed there in May and loved it. It´s an excellent choice. We got a corner deluxe room which was HUGE buy NY standards. The hotel is very nicely furbished, has 42" plasmas in every room, wonderful linnen and great service. The subway is right across the street and cabs are pretty easy to get. Breakfast was the least "fancy" one I´ve experienced in hotels of this standard but I´d lstill ove to stay there again

We loved the Hilton. Our room looked on to ground zero. It didn't bother us. Rooms were clean and spacious. Only prob we had was they tried to charge us for stuff from mini bar which we had not had.

Ste - If you are worried about GZ view / noise remember to request a view from the other side of the hotel by e-mail. Corner view of Brooklyn Bridge / Statue Of Liberty ideally.
The staff are great and will do their best to sort it.

Cheers for that. Could I email them and request a high floor ? Not too bothered by the Ground zero view, TBH, I think it will be an eye opener and maybe savour life more ??? If that makes sense. Sounds a bit morbid doesn't it.

Once again, thanks for your help guys. :D

Stayed here...Just updaded another thread with an update but it's a nice hotel, Ground Zero is opposite but it's interesting if not sad... Statue of Liberty is in walking distance and so is wall street and obviously Ground Zero. There is a great discount store opposite which has some bargains... It's a nice hotel and think you will like it. Cant comment on the standard rooms as we luckily got a junior suite upgrade but im sure they are very nice.... oh also it has a nice pool over looking a church...cant remember the name but its the one from National Tresure with Nick Cage......

Well then your in for a treat. It has a lounge area, Bedroom area, and bathroom area. The lounge and bedroom and connected via a corridor/hallway, there is a 42inch plasma in both the lounge and bedroom. It has 3 different windows, 2 in the bedroom and 1 in the lounge, the usual minibar, Sofa, coffee table, and generally feels quite roomy and feels comfortable. The hotel staff come in during the evening and turn the bed for you and put chocoate on your bed...All the nice things you'd expect.....

dont get me wrong don't expect a Las Vegas style Penthouse Suite but it is very nice...Have fun

Oh and the church I mentioned... I remembered it's called Trinity Church

Ste - A Junior Suite will be floors 8 to 30.
The higher the quieter, I would prefer not to have a lower floor opposite GZ, but the upper floors are fine.
A Junior Suite City View will be floors 31 to 54 - so guaranteed a high floor.
My preference would be a King Bed Corner Room City View - will be floors 46 - 54. If you can bag a view of BB / SL - superb - and quietest.
Definitely e-mail them with your preference - emphasise your trip to NY is a special occasion.
In general - people who don't express a preference, casual business travellers or booked through Priceline etc - will routinely be booked into lowish floors opposite GZ.
The staff are great - try them.

Cheers, think I could play on it being a special birthday trip ?? Because It will be a special birthday like in American standards ? NY is my birthday present. Able to drink there :omg: :pgig:
Birthday is 2 days before we go to Orlando, so a week before NY.

Who did you book through Ste? I was going to use my Virgin miles but they are being antsy about DH needing to use some off of my account so I think I will just book a package!

We are going in a couple of weeks (if I can get it booked, if not it will be April :( )and Im sooooooooooooooo excited! Ive picked the Millenium Hilton as it looks fantastic (although be warned I had this hotel booked in 2001 and exactly 1 month before my trip 9/11 happened and the hotel was destroyed and my flights cancelled :( ). Im hoping booking it again wont jinx this trip - ive waited so long to go!

Hey Allie,
We booked flights & hotel through wikipedia! The Millennium Hilton comes up as the 2nd cheapest hotel they do in Manhattan. Well it did when we booked. And if you look on tripadvisor..
TripAdvisor
Popularity Index: #21
of 330 hotels in New York City

Which I think is ace

Ohhhhhhhhh if you go before me then, you must do a trippie :D

I have used expedia a lot and have them earmarked to book my New York hotel. I think they come up with the best deals.
Reading this thread with interest.

Someone told me that when searching on expedia, delete your cookies before each search as it can record what you have looked at before and sometimes bumps up the price as it knows you are already interested. Don't know if its actually true or not but might not hurt to do it just in case!

Also, search intermittently on Expedia. We got the Waldorf Astoria for 4 nights in June 08 for £642 for the room. We booked this about a fortnight ago. I went in just out of nosiness and searched it again at the weekend for the time we are going. It said there were no check ins available at that time, so I changed it to a couple of weeks beforehand and it was bringing up prices of £1200+!!! So it can vary significantly from time to time and you could end up either paying through the nose or getting a really good bargain!

Best of luck! :spin:

OMG

I have been on there nearly every night checking out hotels in New York and we don't go till November 2008! My rooms will be the most expensive by the time I get to book! :pgig:

You're probably ok as it won't let you book that far ahead at the moment anyway. Just make sure and delete them when it does actually let you book for Nov 2008!

Like I said, I don't know if it is actually true or not, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try it just in case! :D
