Has anyone bought a portable DVD player in Orlando?

DS wants to buy a portable dvd player from walmart when we are there in October. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of doing this ?

If you buy it there it will be locked to region1. This means it will only play DVDs bought in the US.

It's also likely to be an NTSC display which would also be incompatible with UK discs.

We bought one rom Walmart. Had no problems with it. It was region coded, but DH found a hack that made it all region.
We still have it, although we don't take it with us much nowadays as we tend to take our laptop instead.
The player is dual voltage too, so we can use it here at home.
When we have used the dvd player over in the Uk we just change the power cord on it, it uses the same cord as say a portable cd player.
I don't think they make ours anymore as it was a few years ago.

:wave: we got a mutiregion dvd player when there last year and it works fine you can charge it with just a american travel plug as the vollage range is 110/240v :wave: i am not sure whether i am aload to say where i got it on here but if p.m me i will tell you

most will have region free hacks on the net, the cheaper of the players are mostly region free anyway ( as they can sell them in any region )

DS and DH bought one each 3 years ago from the florida mall just had to buy convertor for our electric, still working fine. Would probably buy from walmart now as if it goes wrong it can be returned to asda

Have you considered getting an MP4 player instead. I've just got the wife a Cowon A2 and it's fantastic, one of the best things I've bought her apparently!!!! It's only a 4" screen but very clear picture, is truly portable and has a whopping 12 hour battery life. Problem with portable DVD players is that the playing of DVD's is what takes all the battery life and they tend to last only 4 hours plus they are pretty bulky.
