Car Hire - Santa Monica to Las Vegas

Hi

Does anybody have any recommendations for a car hire firm which will
let me hire a car in Santa Monica and then drop it off in Las Vegas.

Usrentacar, dollar, holidayautos, budget etc all won't let me either pick up in Santa Monica or drop the car off in Las Vegas.

I seem to only have the option of Avis or Hertz. Also Avis is quoting me a price in UKL. Can I assume the UKL is british pounds? The L is confusing me!

The usual 3 letter code for british pounds is GBP but some countries do use UKL as the coding.

However, if you're booking through the UK site doesn't it just come up with the '£' sign anyway?

We were looking at the .com site as it was cheaper than .co.uk however it was giving us prices for both USD & UKL so we weren't sure.

As far as I know most of the bigger companies all have a California/Nevada agreements because there is so much rental flow between the two states. Two years ago we hired a car with Dollar from Los Angeles and dropped it off in Las Vegas and earlier this year we used Budget to hire a car in Las Vegas and dropped it off in San Francisco. Neither time did we have a problem or a one way drop fee.

It could be the Santa Monica location that is causing the problem - have a look at the sites again using Los Angeles as a collection point - you could always get the bus to LA to collect the car - we did that several times when over there and it was an opportunity to go through the neighborhoods we would never have driven through!!

Alternatively, call usrentacar and ask them who their supplier is in Santa Monica and where that suppliers drop off location is in Las Vegas.

I've booked with Avis as they offered a pick up in Santa Monica which is just around the corner from the hotel. Unfortunately Usrentacar couldn't help as they couldn't offer a pick up in Santa Monica.
