I can´t believe it I just called to book a PS for our first night at Chef Mickey´s (in October), and they are already fully booked. That is, they do have a table for us at 9:45, which is much to late for the kids. They didn´t even have anything available the following evening. I´m so sad. This was supposed to be a surprise meal for my family and a good way to start our magic at Disney.
I´d better hurry and make a reservation for our free character breakfast. Any recomendations (don´t want to do the princesses).

I've booked a character breakfast with Pooh and friends at Crystal Palace for October. I have heard only good things about it :) Good luck with booking and here is some pixie dust so you get a table.....

Pooh and Friends is brilliant!
Freya, try one of the other meals, Chef Mickeys is one of the most popular meals but most of the others should still have tables at a decent hour. Also try calling again, as people do cancel tables all the time.
There aren't a lot of character dinner meals, but there are some fun places for dinner out of the parks. Ohana's at the Poly is great for kids, or the Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. For superb food, but not particularly 'Fun', try Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge
the only other character dinners that I know off, are 1900 Park Fair, which is Princesses, I'm afraid, or inside parks, Crystal Palace with Pooh, Garden Grill with Mickey, Chip n Dale, and Liberty Tree Tavern again with Mickey.
If you really fancy Chef Mickeys, I would call back closer to the time
