Hi all

Just looking for some advice reagrdsing the CBR.

I have been on trip advisor regarding the CBR.Most the people seem to complain that is so big.Yet when I look at it on the map it seems to me that the futherest away cabin to the main complex is about 400m (1/4 mile) which to me constitues a 10 min walk at best.

Is it that the people who are complaining dont like walking or am I reading this map wrong

Regards

We stayed at CBR last year and loved it - we dont mind walking at all and found it no hardship whatso ever - we wondered why people had complained about the size - wasnt an issue with us at all - fantastic place all round for us

A lot of people complain about a 5 minute walk - but many are also surprised how short walking times really are between a variety of places. CBR is pretty spread out, I plan to work on a photo walk (to be put up this weekend) with walking times around the resort as well.

We stayed there last week... in Martinique building 22.. about a 45 sec walk to our pool and laundry services ....15 secs to Barbados sandy area, 1 min walk to the bus stop and about a 2 minute walk to Port Royale. Got to admit though in the scorching hot heat it felt like alot further. :D

We were in Barbados room 1313 which is right at the bottom of the resort. I would say it was maybe a 10 minute walk to the main pool/food court area, far enough that when we forgot a hat it was a bit annoying but not so far that we didn't go back and get it.

I certainly didn't think it was a problem, the bus stop was v. close, so was the quiet pool, beach and the carpark so it was only the food court that was any sort of distance.

Playing with google maps, and it's no more than half a mile along the road from the furthest points, on foot it would be much shorter than that as you would go along the lake and not use the road

We were at CBR in May - I wouldn't stay there again because it was a bit big..but maybe thats because we were placed in South Trinidad - the farthest from Old Port Royale! But the bus was right outside our hotel door - which was VERY convenient! I'd give it a shot - it is a very beautiful resort.

Are most of the posters on Trip Advisor American- as they don't seem to like walking anywhere.

When we read reports on the Pop, there were loads saying the car park was miles away- but we didn;t think so!

CBR is very spread out and as such is not recomended for people with walking difficulty or wheelchair users. it's a lovely resort to look around and fine for the average person to stay at.

Thanks for the advice. You have all put my mind at rest reagrding the walk.

Just as a follow up to the original question will I get to chose what part of the resort I get to stay at when I get there or will I have to make do with where they place me

I phoned Direct Holidays and asked to be placed in Jamica or Aurba and they said they would add it too my details but I got the feeling that this wouldnt happen as they didnt seem to realise that there was different parts to the resort.

Also read again on Trip Advisor that the Brits are put in Trinidad South which has been mentioned is the futherest away

Anyone know what the score is with regard to this and whether I get to chose where I stay when I get there

just ask when you are checking in, when I've checked into any of the hotels I've never had the feeling that their were only certain areas available to me. Usually the CM asks me if I have any preference, I normally just ask for ground floor as we prefer that, but you can certainly ask for a certain area - I am not sure if some of them are preferred areas with a surcharge?

just checked and there are some Preferred Buildings - Trinidad North or Martinique, so if you want those you will have to book preferred and pay the supplement.

To be honest, there are close areas in all the villages, building 34 in Trinidad South is just next door to Trinidad North which would be regarded as Preferred

Probably! I don't find Pop that spread out myself. (I'm American, but I do like to walk).

It was funny, I was at Epcot last week and parked in the regular lot. I never take the tram - and a lot of people were there, waiting at the tram area (there wasn't one in sight yet). I just walked like I usually do, and a lot of people started following. One teenage girl was like "look, they are walking" in a disgusted way. :) I did beat the eventual tram to the front. Sometimes the trams just sit there too, for 5 minutes - and I'll beat them even if they were there first.

It is a big resort but even my parents who are in their 60's managed the 10 min walk from our room to the Food Court after walking around the parks all day. I suppose it depends if you are used to walking, being a non driver I very often walk the mile and a half uphill to our local Morrisons. Best way to keep in shape after all!

I'm a Brit and I was in Aruba so we don't all get shipped off to Trinidad South!
Fantastic hotel, fantastic surroundings, fantastic holiday!
I'm sure you will love it! :thumbs-up

I've learned to be cautious about what you read on Trip Advisor. I think some people just like to moan about everything!!

Hello!

Well as you can see from my Signature we have CBR twice and love it so so much, the Best "island" by far is MARTINIQUE which is right next to Old Port Royale, the main area, and is literally a minute and a half from bus stop, if your request this area before your visit, you will be very pleased, i garuntee!

Do you have to request by email and who to?
Is it ok to email them if you're on a package holiday?

To be honest people just love to have a moan on Trip Advisor it seems. Many people don't like to have to walk more than 5 mins when on holiday to reach the pool/bar restaurants etc, even though they walk miles everyday at teh parks! Crazy!

I'm a Brit and was in Martinique without any request, which is the nearest.

Jamaica isn't necessarily the first pick up. A couple of times Matinique was the first pick up and the first drop off.

Is Martinique classed as preferred or can you request it without paying extra.

I just phoned the ADR number for a room request for POP and they put me through to reservations. You need to wait until around 7 days or less before you are due to travel if you are booked through a travel agent as they don't get your details til then. I got exactly the request I asked for.

I totally agree with this - by the time you've walked to the tram from your car you are most of the way there anyway - we walk at most of the parks - with the stroller it's hardly worth the hassle to fold it and ride the tram unless you are right at the back of the lot (but this is a little off topic)

I am tempted to try and request a room in Martinique. I dont no whether to ring the hotel direct. Is it worth waiting until we get there OR should i try before we go. :wavey:

I'd fax or phone them about four or five days before your holiday and request where you want to stay. Although I've never stayed there I have visited and it is a beautiful resort so wherever you end up you won't really be losing out.
