View Full Version : Help - anyone done Mama Melrose or Hollywood and Vine lately
Planning which restaurant to do for the Fantasmic package next trip and wondering what any recent reviews of these places are?
We have done H&V twice, loved it the first time but VERY disappointed the second time - limited choices, cold food and bad service :(
Never done Mama Melrose as it got poor reviews for ages but they have changed the menu options for the Fantasmic package now haven't they?
Brown Derby is NOT an option as it's a x 2 TS and not wanting to use 2 credits.
I think my party MAY prefer the buffet option at H&V but any recent reports would be helpful please? :)

We did H&V earlier this month for our first time and really enjoyed the quality of the food. The service was quick and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back there.
We did Mama Melrose two trips ago and were not impressed at all. Reviews seem to be very mixed. Sue, are you planning your meals already? :omg:;) I cant believe it! Mind you, Im in full planning mode too.

Mags - according to the Calculator, my 180 days starts from 3rd January (hope Val's free ;) ) so yes in full ADR planning mode, especially as I've read all the "I can't get the ADR I want due to free DDP threads" :omg:
Plan, panic, plan, trying to remember to breathe lol :pgig:

We went to H&V last month as part of the fantasmic package and we enjoyed it. The service was good, there was plenty of choice in the food. I would definately recommend it and would go back again.

MM last review - FEBRUARY!!! :confused2 Come on Dibbers - pull your fingers out!! :pgig:
We ate Mama melrose earlier this month to be honest it was poor ,i called in earlier on in the day to move our adr to 6.00pm from 5.00pm and that was no problem at all .
we were seated straight away ,not sure how to explain but our server was very strange/creepy but couldnt fault him on his service .he was very informal and attentive with refilling drinks ,but there was just something about him
(i feel awful
saying this but there was obviously something wrong with his face ,Bells palsy is the nearest i could describe it too and he was very camp also)
i just didnt feel comfortable, the food wasnt very nice either :(
i had to start
Artisan Breads and Spreads - Freshly baked breads served with an arugula and chive pesto, sun-dried tomato, roasted vegetable, and roasted garlic spreads. - $5.99
the bread wasnt at all fresh .
Dbf had Bruschetta - Marinated tomatoes served with Crostini. - $5.99that wasnt too bad .
my main course was pork and rissitto all the rice was black and mushy :(
dfb had chicken flatbread which again he said was ok
the desserts were the best of the evening i had
Honey-Hazelnut & Ricotta Cheesecake - Honey-hazelnut and ricotta cheesecake. - $5.99 and dbf had Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake - Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake - $5.69
i didnt enjoy eating there at all but as on a previous visit in feb 2005 i had eaten at H&V and didnt enjoy there very much :(
i thought i would give it a go at mama melsrose ,very disappointed next time i will have to try brown derby ;)
hope that helps a little Sue

We have done H&V several times for the dinner package and always found it excellent with good service, prompt seating and a good variety of food(although the variety hasn't changed much over the years!).
Because it's a buffet you can eat at your own tempo to fit in with leaving for Fantasmic. No need to be at Oscar's much before 7 unless you REALLY enjoy sitting on hard thin benches watching people half heartedly doing the Mexican wave!!

We did MM three weeks ago and we loved it. Our server was fantastic and the starter of different types of breads with dips was lovely.
My kids had the childrens meal of fruit bowl to start, pizza and then a ice cream sundae(with Mickey shaped sprinkles) and they ate every mouthful.
As with everything we all have different views on what we like. If I were you I'd look at which menu you prefer and regardless of what reviews you've seen book that one.

Did Hollywood and Vine in early May this year. Not our cup of tea at all, our review is on the Restuarant Review section.

We ate at H&V last year with the Fantasmic Package and were not that impressed, it reminded me of a school lunch canteen.
We wanted to do the package again this year and like you 2 credits for Brown Derby was out of the question. I decided to try Mama Melrose, even though I had read various opinions on it the only way we would know would be to try it ourselves.
The majority of our meals were OK except that the spaghetti Mum and I had with our chicken was cold and we couldn't be bothered to complain. The service we had was atrocious and I felt something yuk would happen to our meals if we returned them. We have never had such bad service in a Disney restaurant and will not be returning.
I think we will be back at H&V next year just for the package facility as it was far better than MM.

Thanks Caron - think it will be H&V as at least there is choice and the prime rib is usually good if nothing else and we can always pay OOP (as it's one of the cheaper TS meals) if we decided to do other TS restaurants.
PLUS with the 2008 DDP excluding appetisers and tip, we won't have to worry about the former with a buffet :pgig:
I know what you mean about it feeling like a canteen though :confused2
