View Full Version : really silly tipping question
Do you hand them the money for the bill and tip together or like we do at home leave it on the table???
Depends on what type of restaurant mostly on Table

depending on whether they are busy, we have done both, but always make sure they have seen you put it down first before you leave
In Disney, your bill comes in a folder. I just put the whole lot in the folder and hand it back to the server.....then run like the clappers in case i havent tipped enough :erm: :erm: :pgig:
In the I Drive buffet places like Pondergrossa, i just leave a couple of $$ under my empty coffee mug!
i tend to leave it one the table in most places but catch the servers eye to say bye and nod over to the tip
you see the busboys? just rushing to clear that table and i always think they may pocket it
IMO i would NEVER tip just $5 for a $45 check, i normally go for 20% unless the server wasn't too good then i would tip 10-15% (mainly 15% unless the service was truly appaling)
the servers are generally very good and if there's a problem it's usually with the food which is not the servers fault, it's happened occasionally to us were the food has been cold but i always give them to opprotunity to put things right or amend the bill accordingly
so come on people tip those few extra $ it's very little extra to us with the great exchange rate and can make all the difference to the server who will think she's done something wrong when she sees less than at the very least 15%
this is not intended as a criticism but needs pointing out to other florida first timers who reading this thinking the norm is 10%
no wonder we have a steroetypical image of being "mean brits"

Just to point out a check of $45 would incl 6.5% of tax u deduct the 6.5% from check then tip on total you dont tip on total of bill incl tax,
i know that you don't tip on the "after" tax figure but i would still not tip only $5 on a $45 check, after all the tax is only a few dollars
my reckoning off the top of my head the tax @6.5% would be just over $3
so even on a pre-tax figure of $42 or there abouts i would still leave $7 tip (min) :)

We were told a good rule of thumb for tipping. Look at the tax on the bill and double the tax for the tip. Then what we do is round it up to the next dollar or if we're really pleased we leave a bit more.

I always feel really paranoid leaving it on the table , so I make sure they know it's there before we leave

I got the impression disney dave was just using those figures as an example. :confused2
.... but disney dave if that was a true figure, then based on a $42 +6.5% tax check assuming a 15% tip you were $1.03 short.... shame on you ;) ;)
