Because the DDP and the resulting mass of ADRs has demolished any chance of being spontaneous  with where to eat dinner within Disney, I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on where is really nice to eat outside WDW.

I'm looking for places on parr with the California Grill.

We are staying in ASM so not too far away would be nice. Possibly within a not too expensive cab ride so I can have a drink!! :tounge:

Thanks

The Gaylord Palms is lovely. They have three "proper" restaurants in there, Old Hickory Steakhouse, Sunset Sam's Fish Camp and Villa de Flora :tounge: :thumbs-up
Forgot, Carrabbas Italian Restaurant on the Formosa Gardens shopping complex on the 192 :tounge: :thumbs-up

There are some wonderful restaurants all pretty much next to each other (well, just minutes from each other anyway) - on Sand Lake Road (west of I4). You have :-

The Melting Pot (fantastic fondues), Moon Fish and Ruth's (plus others) at The Fountains

Bonefish Grill, Amura, Roy's and one of my fave's, Seasons 52 all at Plaza Venezia

Then you also have Christini's and Cariera's Cucina just down the road at Dr Phillips Marketplace

All these restaurants serve seriously good food . . . .

Gaylord Palms would be my choice - we ate there all three Sundays this trip.

I've told my DH I want to stay there for our silver wedding anniversary in a few years time, so he better get saving LOL!

Emeril's Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific Resort - check out HERE (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=1233366#post1233366) for my report from our Christmas trip.

Wonderful ambience, great service - Pacific fusion style and not expensive IMHO if you compare the current exchange rate.

It may not be considered posh but Bahama Breeze at LBV would be a good choice for a reasonable taxi fare, further afield on restaurant row you have Seasons 52, Melting Pot, Roys, and Samba Room these are all on West Sand Lake Road, also on I-Drive you Salt Island, Texas De Brazil, for deserts the locals recommend the Desert Lady just outside of Universal

it was still open this time last year, but believe there have been changes round the mercado area so not sure whats there at moment, we went 3 years ago and it was fantastic.

If it was right inside the Mercado it looks like it may be closed as I walked by there today and the entire place is closed off.

There is a place called something like Magiannos or something at Pointe Orlando, it looks really nice and quite posh

Im desperate to try melting pot too.

These are exactly what I would suggest. You can't go wrong with any of these.

OOOh also the Capriccio Grill at the Peabody, a beautiful restaureant and (if you are feeling a bit more adventurous) http://www.lecoqauvinrestaurant.com/
this place is marvellous and frequently voted the best restaurant in Orlando!
