The reviews don't seem too good:

I also remember someone posted an article not too long ago about how it had recently had loads of health/hygiene violations and actually was closed for a while due to this but I can't find it through Googling now.

We've been and it is one place we won't go back to. My DH is a chef and he felt it was very poor and he rarely comments on quality of food.
It was on the list for places with problems but the upside to that is they wouldn't be allowed to reopen until those problems were resolved and they will be monitored closely in comparison to restaurants that didn't pass. That often makes places be a little better in that capacity.
Not one we'd recommend I'm afraid.

I first ate there on New Years day 2000 and it was excellent but the next time we went back it was not so good, waiter addd 20% on for just the 2 of us, sat us at a sh*t table next to a family with about 8 kids misbehaving when there were plenty of empty tables available. Oh and the floor was really dangerously slippy!
Have not been back since.

Having just returned today. I wanted to comment on the Cattlemans restaurant. Complete rip off!! Charged us 18% tax on a meal for four ( Two adults and two kids) plus the usual 6% tax. The steak was dreadful and they charged $5.95 for each of the vegetables we had. total meal was $120.00 for two steaks with pepper sauce and the kids supposedly ate free!! We went to Cattlemans as it was one of the restaurants listed on the kids eat free card with a dining adult. The cards were only £10.00 each but def not worth buying. Restaurant wasn't that busy but the waiter was miserable and the restaurant had a feel that it was struggling perhaps Gordon Ramsey neds to pay a visit. Really there are plenty of other restaurants that are alot cheaper give this one a miss. :mad2:

Its a real shame as it used to be an excellent Steakhouse .. last time we ate there it had gone downhill loads :( haven't been back since but it may have got better .. I hope so cos it used to be fantastic
as for the 18% added tax .. that would have been the gratuity .. adding it automatically seemed to come with the influx of Brits .. never been a problem for us as we were usually a party over 8 anyhow so it was always automatically added .. apparantly it is the going rate in Florida..

Sadly Cattlemens has been a big disappointment. There was a restaurant (a steakhouse) called Cattlemens in the Central Florida area that was fantastic but having gone to the one on I-Drive I can say that this is not the same restaurant as the others. I took my DH there shortly after we moved over and expected what I grew up with. It was NOTHING like it and one place we won't go back.
As for charging 18% that would be something I would always question and ask to speak to a manager about if you in fact did not receive service worth of that gratuity. Traditionally 18% (or something like that) is added to parties over 6 or 8 because the table usually takes longer and it ensures the wait staff the money that they need since the hourly wage is very minimal. Having said that, if it isn't deserved it should be questioned. If your meal wasn't up to standard it should be questioned. Don't be afraid to speak up. There is a way to go about doing it without it being unpleasant. If nobody speaks up they will never improve.
We have a local restaurant that is generally very good but we had a bad experience (food was good but the behavior of a server next to us made our meal less than enjoyable). As I said earlier my DH is a chef and knows what to expect and what is expected. After we paid he asked to speak to the manager and just voiced our concerns. They were glad to have been told and corrected the problem.
Sorry you didn't enjoy it. My favorite place for steak is Longhorn and would then probably say Outback. If you want to pay a bit more and have a bit finer dining I would then say Charley's. I hope you have better luck next time!!
