Booked our trip to New York in July , at a verrrrrrrry reasonable price. Tonight I have done the dreaded thing and got a quote for our exact same hol, through expedia ( which we booked through) , hmmmm shouldn't do this incase it's cheaper, BUT, did it and it wasn't !!! Infact it is now £300 more for the exact same trip :omg: :omg:
Sooooooo pleased we booked it when we did!!!

Also.. The Millenium Hilton is going down the ratings on trip advisor.. It was the 22nd best hotel in New York.. Now down to 17

Think TK Maxx but untidier!! :D

I picked up a few bargains in there but it was very crowded so I didn't get as good a look as I would have liked.

Surely this means up in the ratings !
Century 21 is like a jumble sale in a large shed selling mostly designer
( ie crap ) clothes at reduced prices. Go for a pint instead. :D

I think Century 21 is one of those places, you either love it or hate it, Ive shopped in there, found some great bargains I was very pleased with and would return, but also got fed up pretty quickly of the rumaging around, I do like to shop, but I am not a die hard shopper checking out every single rail..... if you know what I mean LOL

Its probably a place you will visit anyway as its directly opposite the Ground Zero site, so worth popping in. There is also a lovely little cafe on the corner as you come out of Century 21.

Century 21, very much hyped by people we knew who had been to New York prior to our visit. We spent probably about 5mins in there.

As others have mentioned think TK Maxx (or TK Caxx as I like to call it) or Ross Dress for Less (or Ross for Dross as I like to call it) and you are getting somewhere close.

Not good fun.

We also felt similar thoughts about Filene's Basement in Boston initially but if you give it some time you can really get some bargains. A Nautica fleece for $12 and Timberland zip up top for $25 are two of the best things I have ever bought sale or non sale in the USA.

Still that is Boston.....

So who's feeling smug about their booking now then?

I'd take Trip Advisor reviews with a pinch of salt. I use the forums to get specific info., but a lot more people with something to whinge about write reviews that those who had a really nice time!

Hope you enjoy it.

Absolutely agree with Freckles. We were on a budget in San Francisco last year as part of our RTW trip and opted for the Comfort Inn on Polk Street for our accommodation.

It was rated really badly on Tripadvisor but I've always found Comfort Inn's to be quite nice so we booked it. For $79 per night (yes in San Francisco) we got an amazing refurbished room, free parking (yes in San Francisco) and free breakfast. The other Comfort Inn by the Bay where my Brother stayed when he met up with us was $180 a night.

Use Tripadvisor for guidance but take the reviews with a pinch of salt.

Whilst we were in NY last week, a couple came into the lifts at the hotel with about 10 bags loaded with stuff from there.

We didnt go, didnt have time.

As for Helicopter rides i am sure we went with Liberty tours or somat like that in Feb, highly recommended, very short lasting but great. :thumbs-up

It was amazing how much we packed into that one day! DH did the helicopter trip first thing and then we walked down to Pier 17 and South Street Seaport, walked over Brooklyn Bridge & back, through the Financial District to Holy Trinity Church and Ground Zero, through Century 21 and then up to Wall Street & the NY Stock Exchange, back through to the South Terminal to catch the round trip on the Staten Island Ferry and then back on the Subway to our hotel on W76th Street :omg:

We were absolutely shattered and our feet were killing us but what a great day we had!! :d:

Make sure you take some comfy shoes!!

Another vote here for Liberty tours. We went with them in 2005 and I got to sit next to the pilot!!!!

We went to a great diner for breakfast one morning. I can't for the life of me remember its name (DH is scouring the NYC yellow pages online as I type), but I do remember it was a few minutes walk along from Rosie O'Gradys restaurant (as if you were leaving Times Square) and somewhere near the Hershey's Chocolate shop. At the front of the shop they had a take-away counter where you could buy bagels etc. further in was the restaurant. They sold the best silver dollar pancakes I have ever tasted. The staff were very friendly and there was so much food, we couldnt finish it. You werent rushed out either, even though it was very busy. If i find the name I will edit my post.

Have a fantastic time!

We hated Century 21 Ste. It was too hot, too crowded and so confusingly spread out. I ended up just leaving the stuff Id picked up as the lines for the tills were horrendous.

Its like a jumble sale combined with the Next Sale at Christmas!!!

Either get there early or dont bother! There were bargains - I picked out mainly kids things - DKNY jumpers for $12, Timberland trousers $18 and Ralph Lauren shirts for $14 etc but it was hit n miss on the sizes. They had nothing for my DDs age but tons for my sons. DH and I couldnt find any shoes in our sizes either.

Thats good advice - and something easy to do given your hotel is next door.

I hate TK Maxx, and as people have said its worse than that, went there twice, thought that maybe it might have got better second time around, but NO just as bad if not worse. Never bought a thing and we had our daughter with us whos the queen of shopping and she never even bothered.Give it a miss. Dont waste your time.
