Passport Question again!!

I know its another passport question but I can't find the answer anywhere.
My Mum, brother and sister are hoping to travel next year but my brother is 16 and has a child passport which expires 2010 can he still travel on this or apply for a adult one.

he can use the child passport until it expires (which could be as long as age 20 if he got it at 15)
