Everyone I know HATES Woody the Woodpecker, so why was universals bright idea to make him their "mascot" ?
Remember it's an American themepark so I guess Woody was more popular over there.

They should have made Imhotep from "The Mummy" Their mascot, much more child friendly [/jk]

I used to like Woody Woodpecker. Curious George is lost on me though. Never once heard of it before it sprung up in the theme park.
My kids love Curious George. There is a cartoon of it on Sky every lunchtime (can't remember the kids channel - one of the new ones) my DS (3) loves it! They also would have spent every day of their holiday at Curious George last year! :d:

and what about Spongebob....my kids love him (the older is 14 for goodness sake, although he had the sense to look embarassed when getting his picture taken with bob 1)
And for all us older slobs, how about Homer :d:

Tweety pie for me
Most likely because he has been a part of UniversalStudios since 1940.
If they picked the most popular icon, it would have to change from year to year. In a few years, Spongebob, Dora, and Barney will probably fade into media history. Mickey was one of Walt's first cartoons and Woody was one of Universal's first.

We've just got back from PortAventura in Spain, which is Universal owned - and it's ALL about Woody (or Mrs Woody!?).
Not my favourite character at all - my DS (2) was not impressed - wanted to know where Mickey was all the time! Cheered up a bit when he saw Shrek though (I have no idea why as he has never seen the films...!?) :d:

He's been around a long time, has a lot of staying power. I didn't know that anyone didn't like Woody Woodpecker!

What reason could ANYONE possibly have to "HATE" woody?
He may not be a regular cartoon star now but then neither is Mickey its about staying power.....and as others mentioned its a US park and he may well be an Icon in the states.
Not too many of us grew up knowing of the Grinch, Curious George and cat In The Hat did we....?

Yup mine too :d:
I was mortally offended with this thread at first as one of my beloved dogs is called Woody :omg: - but he is named after the cowboy from Toy Story, so the OP is safe from my wrath :pgig:

Woody's been around for almost 70 years, it should count for something. I personally like the cartoon presence at US and IOA, some of the characters may seem unfamiliar to us, but are big in America (Curious George has been a well loved kids book for over 60 years) and others are famous world wide like Popeye and Olive Oyl (she's been around for almost 90 years) and I do love that Popeye ride lol
