Hi
We are off to Prague in January for three nights four days. We are looking at taking £500. This is for two adults, tais there and back to airport, just lunch and dinner, drinks and a few souvenirs.
Do you think this will be enough. Anyone been who can confirm this?
Thanks

Sarah,
That is way too much in my opinion!!! It is now 3 years since we went so you have to bear that in mind but we only managed to spend £100 during 3 nights.
I take it you have booked the hotel and that doesn't have to come out of the £500?
We did eat fairly cheaply though as we were recommended the Tex Mex (of all things) by a few people who had been to Prague and found that you could have 3 courses for about £5 each. Lunch was also very cheap, mainly gorgeous filled baguettes for next to nothing.
For beers we avoided the very popular Irish bars and stuck local. In most places we were only paying 40-60p a pint, and that was for Starapromen or Budvar. It was very cheap and this was after people telling us that the days of cheap in Prague had gone and to start looking at other Eastern European cities.
As for transport we avoided taxis at all costs and just bought a 3 day tram/underground pass which did us fine. As we were staying out of the main tourist area we did need to utilise the trams/underground quite a bit and were glad we bought the pass, which was very good value. The pass also enabled us to get from the airport and back after our trip.
As I said, this was 3 years ago now and I don't know if prices have soared since but I seriously doubt it. Hopefully someone who has been more recently can give an updated idea on likely costs etc.
Prague is a great city, you will love it.

Thanks for that, blimey too much!
Yes hotel and flights are paid for. We will only need a taxi there and back to airport. We will walk everywhere else to see the sights. Breakfast is included in the hotle so thats sorted. Will probably snack for lunch and one big meal in the evening. We are not big drinkers so will not be spending loads on booze, although may have to try a couple of local beers and mulled wine.
The rest will just be pressies for kids and a couple of souvenirs, and of course any entrance fees into attractions.
Didn't realise it was so cheap!
Thanks

We went 2 years ago and took far too much money! There were 23 of us. We booked a minibus to take us to our hotel from the airport and back again. We ate out at least twice a day - lunch and dinner. (We had breakfast in the hotel.)
While we were there we went to the theatre, did all of the cultural things like museums, art galleries etc. We bought a tram pass and an underground pass for the 4 day trip. I bought loads of items and I still spent less than £200! Honest. That was without accommodation though - that was already paid for.
The beer was great and only 50p a pint. The average meal, which was really good quality, was about £5. Get a tram pass for the duration of your stay because they are excellent value for money. Just be careful around the stations. When we were there we saw a lot of gangs of young people, obviously travellers, and they can look intimidating as they usually have large dogs with them. I work with homeless teenagers and I'm used to this but it can make people wary. Please bear in mind that the large dogs are there to protect them, not to intimidate you.
The prices may have gone up but it wouldn't stop me going back - it's a truly beautiful city. We were there when the infamous cow parade was on and it was a real mission finding them all and guessing their names. Have fun.

Hi Sarah,
We went for 4 days in August and used this company for transfers from and to the airport. Can recommend the service http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.com/
We also found the restaurants good value and found a great fresh pasta restaurant called Ambiente which was downstairs in a cellar on the main street between the towergate and the main square - sorry can't remember the street name. It's a very small doorway but opens out as you go through and downstairs - great food and service. In fact we changed plans to go back for lunch on the day we were leaving it was so good!
Have a great time.
Pam.

We have a similar dilemma in that my friend and i are going to Copenhagen at the end of November for three nights.
We also are having a day tripto Sweden. Both countries have different currencies.
I plan to only take £100 each to Copenhagen and use my creidt card and also just take around £20 to Dweden just to cover some lunch as it is an organised trip.
But a worry all the same in case we run out.
