I've just been informed by my District Nurse that within the next 2 years incontinence supplies will no longer be available from the NHS.
How on earth are people on Income Suppport or with low incomes going to afford to pay for them?

Carol, that's appalling! but then it doesn't surprise me at all :(

This is awful. My ds uses incontinence products and there is no way we could afford to buy everything he needs on a weekly basis.
Like you say the families who rely totally on benefits would really face hardship.
How can they just stop them, or we going more into a system of private healthcare, having to pay for everything, (like the states)
Thank you for posting this I will be on to my district nurses tomorrow.

Best wishes
Sally

Was talking to a friend at the weekend who was telling me she is only allowed 3 nappies a day for her son (he's 18 and has CP). I was shocked at that, but none seems incredible.

You're kiddding! I've not heard anything about this. Our teenage DS is doubly incontinent, there's no way we will be able to afford to pay for supplies for him unless they are going to increase DLA accordingly, but what else can you do. Surely this is a human rights issue?

Edited to say that yes, 3 pads a day is the allowance for a teenager. God forbid they ever get a tummy bug!

When DS2 had pads when he was younger we had to send them into school as well (Special Needs School) so we had to buy them to use at home. It was an ongoing battle between the school and Health Authority.
