View Full Version : Disabled Parking tag
We have just returned from Orlando and I hope this information will be useful to others.
I did not apply for the parking tag by post, thought it would be easier to go to one of the offices.
Anyway found the Licence office easy enough by using our Tom tom, waited only 10 mins to be seen and the Tag was issued.
I asked if I could at the same time, purchase one for next March/April, to save me coming again, and was told to apply by post and that as they already had my detals on file, all I needed to do was write and ask including the no on my present tag. Also there would be no charge for this as I am already registered.
So sounds like even though it is one more thing, we have to do for our holidays, we are not going to keep benng charged for it each time. So good news for a change.

Interesting, I really do hope that's right. When we got ours I asked if there was any way to extend it to include another trip and was told flatly 'no', you will need to come back and pay again for another one :confused2
They really should have given some thought to issuing the same rules to all employees before rolling this out :(

 Hi
We renewed our disabled parking tag back in July for our Sept 07 trip
we posted it off including last years tag (Sept 06). We received a new tag for last months trip and yes it was free of charge !!
As we are going again in March & Sept 08 we believe the same will apply, once your details are on file it is renewed free.
Hope this helps.

Yippee, now to go and check to see that DH has not thrown the old tag in the bin. Do you need to send the actual tag or will a photo copy do?

That's really good news. I sent for mine for November and asked if it could extend through next March as well but it came back only valid til the end of this year. If we just have to post the old tag off and ask for a new one that will be no problem.

We applied about two weeks ago by post and haven't heard yet (mind you they do say about four weeks) - as we still don't go for six weeks I'm not worrying yet.
I contacted them about my bro in laws badge .. we're not going until next year but we like to plan early!
For anyone who hasn't the time to look things up, here is the info:
Send a copy of the disabled badge, a copy of his passport and $15.00 (U.S. funds money order). Mail it to
Winter Park Tag Office
501 N. Orlando Ave. , Suite 305
Winter Park, Fl 32789
Attn: Suella Carnevale
You may not need to address it to that lady but definitely that address!

We have now had the pass back but it is only valid for three months and not six as advertised.
Oh well I didn't have a lot of chance of persuading DH to let us go back for Easter anyway.
Just an update from my first post.
I applied for a new parking tag by post, about 10 days ago for March/April.
I received the new parking tag yesterday and it was free of charge.

We have never bothered with a tag and am not going to bother this year either.
Never had a problems, even after asking police or parking wardens if the UK badge is ok.

its fine in the parks for parking but you have to be careful outside..after all there must be a reason why they require this Tag

If you want to collect the Tag in person how long does it take.,
I got the Tag by going to one of the offices the 1st time. We were in the building about 15 mins.

Exactly why we get the temporary parking tag, it's not worth the worry of not getting it. We have used our DS2 UK parking badge before until last year when the new rules were put in place. We park at restaurants, shops and malls as well as at the parks so abide by the rules.

$15 for peace of mind is not much, we dont want another ticket $250 is no joke...

I totally agree with you. Plus the fact in the scheme of things in how much your holiday costs $15 is nothing.

Quote from the initial email I received...
We will email a confirmation that all documents have been received and are acceptable. Once you receive the confirmation email, you will need to contact our office to have your payment processed over the telephone with your credit card.
How long do they normally take to contact you after you email them the scanned copies of your passport and blue badge? I emailed mine on Tuesday and haven't heard back from them.

Doesn't there e-mail say that you have to contact them once you have received there confirmation e-mail.
I would ring them on Monday if i were you just to make sure they have actually received your information.
I had loads of trouble with them this year, they kept saying they hadn't received anything from me, when i had a confirmation that they had, although i posted the information first & then faxed it. It was a bit of a nightmare.
Can someone please PM me the details of the e-mail address of where to apply.
Thanks

Hi Penny
I emailed them initially via their online form at http://www.osceolataxcollector.com/contact.html
and then someone contacted me via email and I responded to that person. I will give them a call tomorrow as I'm running out of time now. I know I have the option to go to the office and get one when I get there but would rather not have to use up any of my holiday time doing that. Got better things to do ;)

Right, I called the Office and the woman who answered the phone hadn't a clue what I was talking about :confused2 Eventually I managed to make myself understood and she passed me on to the woman I was in contact (Lynn Anderson) with who in turn passed me on to somone else :confused2 It's now paid and they'll send it out as soon as it's processed.

We are currently in the USA for our 2008 trip, so far we have used our UK disabled badge in New York, Boston, Salem and Kennebunkport.
We have had no problems what so ever, even after showing our badge to Police and parking officers.
We are going to continue using our UK badge during the rest of our trip including Florida;)

I got my Tag in the post today. That's a week after I phoned them to chase them up and two weeks after emailing my documents.
I know TopFloridaFan has been getting on ok without one but I wanted peace of mind. Don't want to be spending one single moment worrying about parking fines.

we also wanted peace of mind,a Tag is there for a reason so if people dont apply for one on there head be it as luck always runs out (we had a ticket once)
I agree for the sake of a few ££ its not worth the risk to me either. Rather that than a fine.
Also I think I would worry every time I parked, that I would go back and find a ticket.

off topic slightly, only slightly, we have the Tag as we hire the disabled car and it comes with the car and my mum and dad are also in the car with us which helps mum and dad because they can't walk very far.
this year it looks like they are going to have to use their own hired car more and follow us if you know what I a mean. Universal is worrying me a bit because you know how long it is from the 'normal' car park even to city walk let alone getting to the park entrances.
anyone got any suggestions as they don't have a blue badge here so I can't even get them a tag for over there

Ali, it might be worth you emailing Niurka at nnazario@osceola.org she deals with disabled parking tags in the district and would be able to let you know if you can get one without a blue badge - maybe if you asked her if a doctors letter would suffice? Good luck!!

I thought you had to get the higher rate mobility allowance to get a blue badge here.
I might ask DS's social worker ;)

Some Councils award them to people who who they feel qualify for one with the support of their GP. I don't get DLA Mobility (just lower rate care) and it was my GP who ordered me to apply for one. I filled out the form, he completed it and sent it off. I didn't think I'd get it but a few weeks later one popped through my letter box and it's been an absolute godsend. Give them a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. Good Luck.
