Hi guys,
We were in St Petes in Oct 05. We loved it so much & stayed 8 nights.
We are thinking of including the beach again in our next holiday. However travel agents are quoting expensive rates for a standard room only hotel on the beaches. I'm just googling at the moment & saw private propertys on the beach ie villas etc. There rates are great & esp converting the dollar to euro's.
Have anyone ever booked private property on the web. Any tips that you could give.
It just seems like if i own a property & i rent it out to one of you guys, is that what it seems its like.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Brindle,
We absolutely loved St Petes Beach. Have never been to clearwater so cant compare. But this is what i loved about St Petes.
We stayed 8 nights on the last week of Oct. Could not believe how beautiful it was. We stayed in Trade winds Island Grand. It was an upgrade from the Trade winds Sandpiper, they were undergoing renovations at the time. Hotel was nice, a bit too big for my liking though, nice little rivers around it with lots of swans. There was no one on the beach, only a few joggers, plenty of cabanas. It was so quiet, no teenagers or gangs or groups etc. Just perfect. For two 25 year olds we were like a retired old couple.
We walked most of the beach at day & night, esp down to the Pink Castle Don Cesar. There is also a few shops & supermarket across the road. Ice Creams, Barber shop, Chemists etc, also a McDonalds up the road we often used this as we were running out of money. Didnt try any resteraunts because of this :(
Plenty of attractions we visited the upside down Pyramid. Nice place to wander around & be touristy. Got the beach trolley up to Johns Pass. Driving was very nice. This is a must go place, lots of sea viewing, shops. Because it was nearing holloween they had lots of various attractions around the place too. Loved it, walked from here all the way back to our hotel. Went to a big mall in downtown st petersburg also, very easy to get to with the trolley buses.
What can i say, you will absolutely love this place, it can be too queit, but if thats what your looking for go for it. We had no car so used public transport, everyone was so nice, put it this way I had to ask a "sexy" dressed up nun where i should get off. She was even holding a ruler in her hand, where she worked they all had to dress up cause of holloween lol.
IMHO i think St Petes would be a little bit more queiter than Clearwater esp for crowds on the beach. Which i had my photos, accidentantly deleted them. Im raging caused i had nice ones of the sunsets.

we have booked maderia beach for 7 nights next june a 2 bed condo in a nice quiet resort and it is only $440. if you want any more info PM SHIRLEY
We love St. Pete`s and always visit for the day when we`re in Orlando. We spend a few hours at the beach and then drive down to the pier. DH and our sons fish while I have a look around the pier shops and aquarium. A two minute drive up the road (if that!!) is a small shopping mall called The Bay where there is a really nice Johnny Rockets. Johns Pass and Madeira Beach are also well worth a visit. Have a look at these web sites. :-) www.stpetebeach.com www.stpete-pier.com www.floridasbeach.com www.johnspass.com
Forgot to say that our favourite place to stay in St. Pete`s is The Don CeSar Beach Resort, known locally as The Pink Palace. It has been there since 1928. www.doncesar.com

Shirley - I would be interested in this. But we are only needing 3 nights and I know that some places like to rent for at least 7? If this is the case with where you've booked then it won't be suitable.
Let me know if you think it might be ok?
Cheers

I have just had a look at these condos and they look great - just what we are looking for, although not directly on the beach, but I suppose not far away at all. I did think they wouldn't be suitable because they only rent for a min of a week and we only require 3 nights, but I see you have rented for 3 nights. Maybe I should contact them as see if they would allow us to do the same.
