My broadband has been down since last night - anyone else having problems?

Currently using my neighbour's wireless  - with their permission of course.

Don't get me started. We lost our connection for 3 weeks in the summer :mad2: . Orange were totally useless. They tried to say it was our fault, saying our filters were faulty. No one ever rang me back, as promised. It was soooooo annoying. It turns out that in May this year the switched us, without our knowledge, to their own system instead of the BT supply. On BT we could get 8mb download. Their system couldn't handle this speed. We are now on 0.5mb. Once they downgraded the line we were back on the net. The annoying thing about it all was the way it was handled by them. I have been given £50 compensation. It all started happening when we changed from paying £18 per month for our service to opting for the £30 mobile phone offer with the internet for FREE. Once we went for free the service has becoming shocking. We are seriously looking at paying for our broadband service seperate from the phone offer.

Rant over

hi
yes ours was down for 24hrs las week - had the cheek to go through all the checks as they said it was our computer. they finally admitted after half an hour on the phone to the techy division it was them. the phone all cost a fortune, eventually after many complaints they cancelled the charges and gave us £5 as a goodwill gesture!

Apparently it's a problem a lot of users have had over the past few months - PPP server down :( Unfortunately Orange have very little inclination to correct the fault.

I've been with them for 8+ years and this is the first time I've had a problem. I refuse to call their tech helpline & they still haven't answered my emails - I've done all the troubleshooting stuff they advise & it's still the same.

The only problem I'm having is that sometimes, not every time, when the phone rings it disconnects the broadband, it doesn't do it if I dial out. I'm not sure if it's their fault or mine but other than that everything is fine at the moment.

We have been with them for years our e-mail is still freeserve. It was when we became a free customer and they switched us onto their own system from the system we had been on for years. They didn't tell us they had switched us and this caused the problem because they couldn't handle the download speed and it caused our service to collapse.

Mine is fine at the moment.

It often disconnects itself in the evenings lately, but I have usually been able to reconnect quite quickly.

Have you powercycled? (Shut down, unplug modem completely, wait for 5 mins so it can all reset, turn back on and THEN reconnect modem when you see your desktop).

Hope you get it sorted...

Yes - I'd tried everything in the troubleshooting section - unplugging, checking username & password - even a factory reset.

Good news is I'm back online after finding a 'fix' on a forum dedicated to Orange broadband problems. Plugged in my old USB modem - that worked OK with my PC, reconnected the livebox & voila - I'm wireless again :D

Good news!

Always a result when you can do it without wasting half your life (and cash) on the Orange tech. line...!
