Hi All

This may sound a silly question but are snakes common in Egypt. I wanted to go in Feb for some nice winter sun, but someone mentioned they have alot of snakes now i don't think i'll go.

I think we would have gone to an all inclusive resort in Sharm el Sheik.

Thanks

There are snakes in Egypt but according to some articles that I have just read, you have next to no chance of seeing any. This is especially so in resort locations.

I've been to Egypt a few times and never seen one yet :erm:

Snakes fear humans and their natural reaction is to hide from them !

Most people who get bitten by a snake, do so because they have stood on one by accident when the snake is hiding ! As long as you keep away from walking in rough grass, don't turn over any large stones, don't start digging up any holes, then I'd say you have next to no chance of seeing any !

You have much more chance of being injured by traffic on your holiday (any holiday, not just Egypt !) than bitten by a snake - please don't let snakes put you off going anywhere !

I hate to rain on your parade, but I have seen a snake in Egypt, very close and apparently it was deadly!!!!!!

It was many many years ago in Luxor. Me and my friend were lying by the pool at the Sheraton. We were very close to the brick wall which seperated the pool from the Nile.

Anyway, we were just lying there and saw this black snake slithering between the pool beds. It wasn't too large, and tbh it was great just watching it. After about 10 mins, a pool waiter came over to ask if we wanted any drinks, and I pointed out the snake, asking what it was.

Well all hell broke loose. Apparently one bite and you would be dead, so the whole pool area had to be evacuated until it woas found. It never was, and was least seen heading off over the wall into the Nile.

Anyway, I have been to Egypt many many times since, both Luxor and Sharm and never seen anything since, but they do exist. Persoanlly, I wouldn't be bothered one bit, as there is always something that can kill you wherever you go - a car crossing the road for instance...........

You've got me worried now - we're off to Luxor at Christmas. We've been to Sharm a few times and never seen a snake. I'll keep away from the Nile whilst sunbathing :cool2:

Well I understand how you feeling about Snakes.

I am really phobias of Snakes.

At Orlando, one park, lady carry snake around her neck. I turn around and walked away I left my kids there and watch her

I cannot face any snakes, snakes shoes, snakes purse :mad2:

I realise that snakes are all over in the World except New Zealand!!

I carry on holiday and hope not see any snake. I am shocking to heard that Florida Orlando have lots of black snakes!!

At Cyprus I just had lunch with girls and one man told us that cat had a snake in their mouth. I was panic but it gone!! :mad2:

Go to Egypt and don't let the snake win!!

We went to Sharm last Feb, never saw any snakes though and we were staying in Nabq Bay away from the touristy parts. Great hot weather in Feb though, and snorkelling is a must just watch out for the jellyfish!
