Me and Ray are hoping to get 6 nights in Vegas in February (my birthday).

My budget and other things points to me having the choice of 2 hotels.

The Luxor

Planet Hollywood

I love the look of the Luxor but people have said its a bit far down the strip.

PH is in a better place but i havent fallen in love with the pictures i have seen, although its in no way horrible. The pool is also closed off season here which i find a bit strange.

So my question is which one and why.......please.

Im also looking for info on the weather, average temps are coming out quite low (low 60's) but i never trust them, so does anyone have experience of visiting at this time of year.

Luxor is near to the end but it only takes about 10/15 to walk to the middle and that is going through all the other hotels and shops - its a doddle.

Never can understand people when they say the Luxor is right at the end of the strip..... like if its a million miles away.

You will be walking miles whatever hotel you stay at probably to get to all the other hotels and the strip including all the shops etc.....

I'd go for the Luxor its a great hotel.

Also it get less busy in there than say the Bellagio or the Wynn which are usually streaming with crowds and it can drive you mad.

Have a great time - Vegas is wonderful and so is the Luxor. xx

Hi We have stayed at the Luxor, and it is a great hotel. It is at the end, but as Nicksgirls say its not to far to walk, all the time you are walking you are seeing something.

We stayed in the Luxor this Feb & loved it. The rooms in the Towers are newer but we choose to stay in the pyramid & got a great room. Ask for one on an high floor as the corridor the rooms open onto overlooks the casino.

We didn't find it too far down the strip. We used the monorail to get around, which we caught at the MGM. long walk through the MGM that hotel is huge! But do take comfy shoes/trainers, which ever hotel you stay at you will do loads of walking

Luxor is connected by walkways & a free monorail to the Mandalay Bay & excaliber hotels.

The Luxor pool was open in Feb & it was great swimming outside at that time of year. The pool is heated & we'd left snow at home. DH wore his t shirt & shorts during the day, though I did wear trousers. We did have heavy rain one evening so take a brolly. You need a jacket /fleece for the evening.

Any more questions do ask

I have voted for Planet Hollywood.

Although I haven't seen the rooms in either the Luxor or PH this is based on the following:

1. Location - PH is much more central strip than Luxor.
2. PH has just been refurbished (was originall the Aladdin) so 'should' be much more modern, new and up-to-date.
3. Loved, Loved, Loved the PH casino - very modern, non smokey and just a great ambiance
4. PH has the Spice Market buffet, which in ly opinion was one of the best buffets we had, poss only beaten by Paris Village Buffet for breakfast. Staying at PH means you would be nearer Paris Village Buffet for breakfast than staying at Luxor.
5. Great shopping mall adjacent
6. Have I mentioned Location - is so it needs mentioning again because PH is in such a better place than Luxor!!!!!!

For me it would be no contest, but I think I 'could' be biaised as the Luxor did nothing for me when we visited, and yet we ended up in PH every day!!!!!!!!!!

Luxor to centre of the strip would not be a 10-15 minute walk. The distance between the hotels is misleading if you look at it on a map, its one the first things Vegas Virgins learn!

PH is newer, more central and the standard rooms are bigger. As has been pointed out it's just been refurbed. The Luxor is looking a bit long in the tooth now.

Lots of UK package tours use the Luxor so you'll find more brits go there than Planet Hollywood (or the Aladdin as it was). Which is why you'll find more comments from people here that have stayed there.

For a first time visitor, location is very important whilst you're finding out where everything is, unlike the rest of the US most things are walkable, so where you stay is important.

At that price point, also consider Ballys, Monte Carlo and TI (location not as good as PH, but better than Luxor). Next price bracket down would Flamingo or Imperial Palace - both great locations. Although hotel prices fluctuate wildly in vegas so there's no guarantee anything will be cheaper. If a big convention hits a hotel all standard prices go out the window, I've seen the Mirage cost more than the Bellagio for example.

Even if PH and Luxor were in the same place, I'd still choose PH.

Out of the two, I would choose the Luxor, you will have a great time whichever one you choose.

I have to agree that it is not a 10-15min walk to centre strip, you could spend 10mins just trying to walk past Ceasars Palace.

But from people I spoke to whilst out there they said Luxor rooms in the pyramid were an experience you should do at some time.

Personally if I were you I would do 3 days one end at Luxor and 3 days the other end at TI or Planet Hollywood. Even with packing and unpacking time its worth it as you would get very tired walking that far each day even without the heat.

Hi

We stayed at the PH (nee Aladdin in Oct 05) and my sister stayed and the Luxor at the same time!

The PH is in a very good central location and for that alone, I would choose to stay there again! The Luxor was great too and had some very nice theming - we ate in the posh steak restaurant and gambled there - but it was right at the airport end of the strip. That is ok if you plan your day and don't want to nip back to the hotel. We found that we walked miles and miles anyway, but just relax and take it easy.

The PH has a great mall attached, nice buffet and I would imagine that after it's refurb, it will be in tip top condition.

Good luck with your choice - one recommendation if you like buffets (like me) the Wynn had to be the very best in my opinion - fab surroundings and food.

Have a great trip and I hope you have a big win too :)
