I'm just after a little bit of info really about my DD who has a left side hemiplegia.

Her balance seems to have gone from bad to worse at the moment, to the point where she almost knocked herself unconscious at school tripping over nothing. She has a lump on her temple the size of an egg.

I've asked the physio several times about this, she has transferred her from her splints to insoles and a built up shoe. My DD's toes have now started to cross under each other and her big toe has started to turn in. I asked the physio about this, to be told it was normal.

Has anyone had any experience of their kids losing their balance frequently, (she is a bit clumsy anyway), but it seems to be an almost weekly occurance now. Last week she fell down onto her knees so hard it made her physically sick. I have keep coming out of work to collect her (not that I mind about this), but I am concerned that she is falling over so much.

Thanks.

sorry to hear this about your dd, I have no advice to give. My ds has balancing problems due to poor co-ordination and poor motor skills due to his aspergers syndrome.

Your poor DD, this must be really upsetting for you and for her.

Is there perhaps a reason for her balance being worse than usual? Maybe an ear infection or something? Even a change of footwear can cause unsteadiness.

Could an aid of some sort help, a walker or stick to give some stability when she stumbles or loses balance? I know not everyone likes the thought of using aids, but it's something to consider and her physio or OT would advise what's best.

Get to your Doctor and have this followed up. Physios are very good at what they do but you need a physician's input to this. Any changes to what has hitherto been a stable situation needs investigating.

I've taken her to see the OT and she's developed a bunion, and her ankle has started to kink inwards. They are going to change her splints and try to raise her toes up from the floor to see if that'll stop her tumbling over. Poor thing, she's still black and blue!

Has she seen anyone from the orthotic dept that used to provide the splints. After you've got her checked over by a doctor they may be best placed to wave the magic wand. I'm suggesting this as this was certainly the case with a little girl I knew who spent a lot of time falling over when her aids were changed. May I also say after they saw her she had new boots and things settled rapidly.

Your poor DD {{{hug}}}. Do you see a peadiatrican. Mum knows best and if you feel you are not getting the right answers keep at it until you do.
My DD in 2000 had hip surgery. When they took her out of the spika she would not stop screaming. They said this was normal but it went on and on. I kept taking her back to the hospital as i knew something was not right. Her physio said nothing was wrong, but as her mum i knew something was not right. 8 weeks later they found she had a broken leg. I am not saying your DD has this but just to go with your motherly instinct until you are happy.
