Had a long talk with dbf. To go to Florida next year is going to cost alot of money. Therefore we have now come to the conclusion of looking at other sunny destinations ie Lanzarote which comes in around 900 euros in total for 2 weeks self catering etc

Can anyone suggest any nice places either canaries, cyprus, greek islands that 2 adults can enjoy next August/Sept. We dont want to be around families or lots of kids  Which i think Sept might be a good time to go when everyone goes back to school.

Any recommendations guys. Something to take my mind off Florida :(

Sorry things haven't worked out for Florida, but i am sure you will still have a good time wherever you go. I absolutely loved Lindos on the island of Rhodes.

We had a great holiday in November last year at the Barcelo Fuerteventura in Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura. Enjoyed it so much we went back in February

Before we had kids (well Katie was a small baby), we had a fabulous holiday in Majorca - there is so much to see there - Palma is a brilliant city, we went on excursions through the mountains, sunbathing, little markets - loads of stuff to do (most of which is "boring" if you are a kid, hence we haven't been back)

For a more adult location, look at somewhere like CalaDor

I second Rhodes, easily my favourite Greek Island with glorious beaches, and plenty to do apart from sunbathing.

Lindos is fantastic, although extremely hot. Also Prassonissi at the far south of the island is where the two oceans meet, a sand bank splits the two with one side very rough (ideal for windsurfing) and the other side flat calm. It is fascinating.

Also Valley of the Butterflies is worth a visit, not forgetting the magnificent capital Rhodes Town, easily the best capital on any Greek island.

We stayed in (whispers) Faliraki.......and yes it was during the notorious Club Reps year of 2001 but it was fantastic. Sure it was lively in parts but there were always quieter bars and restaurants to have a good time as well. I understand that the authorities have cleaned the place up a lot since then, and the 18-30 brigade have now moved onto Laganas in Zante and Malia in Crete (we were there this year, pretty lively but not manic) so it might be an option for you now.

I would also recommend Kefalonia as well but it might be too quiet for you. It really depends on what you want from your holiday. Kefalonia has great beaches, plenty of sightseeing but not a lot in the way of nightlife. This might suit some people of course.

If you need anything further let me know.

save the money and go for a bigger and better florida holiday the year after.... if not I'm sure a trip to your local travel agents and a bundle of brochures might help

Have you thought of a Nile cruise? plenty of sun, hardly any kids, all food included, and if you want to see all the sights you can [included]
or you can just sunbathe, I think they are good value.

How about Turkey - you can get some great prices for all-inclusive hotels on Lara Beach (we're going in May - then Florida in August...)
