View Full Version : Outlook Express "Losing" Email.

Over the past few weeks, I have not been receiving all my email.
I am only aware of this when I am waiting for a particular confirmation which doesn't come through, or when I get a further message from someone saying "Why didn't you reply to my email?!"
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which emails go astray!
Obviously i can't tell how much I am not getting, but it only seems to be about 10% of my normal receipts.
Any suggestions?

It seems as if you ISP may have a limit to you downloads. Firstly I would check with them and ask the question. Secondly, if you know your ISP e-mail password, go to www.mail2web.com type in e-mail address and password. This should show you your e-mails without any restrictions.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, Steve, can you clarify what you mean by "limit to downloads"?
When i go to mail2web, it says I have NO email!

Wanadoo/Orange - yes, they have fsmail.net.
Do you have spam filtering set up (either on your ISP, in your local anti-virus/internet software, or in Outlook)? Sometimes this can get a bit too aggressive and filter out the good stuff too.

I have avast security and have checked that all the sensitivity levels are set to "normal".
Have you checked what Andre was suggesting and go through to your web mail to make sure the spam filtering isn't being too aggressive as well.

See above!
I don't know what else to check?
Does O.E. have its own spam filtering - how do i check that? And if it is too aggresive, how do I correct it?

Sorry, I thought you had only checked your local filtering, it was the way I was reading it.
Have you noticed if this is a problem receiving emails from one particular source like Hotmail or Yahoo? sometimes ISP's just block these and there isn't much you can do about it apart from complaining to your ISP.
OE does have spam filtering but it takes a lot of setting up and teaching that's usually why you have third part applications available.

It doesn't really seem to be one source. In fact, what is surprising is that it has blocked mail form both DH at work and my sister - both obviously sources that I use very frequently!
This morning I have received an email that my sis sent on Tuesday. yet she sent me two that day, and the other one has not arrived at all...yet!
She re-sent both yesterday, when we realised I had missed them and they came through instantly.
Confused!
Yes it is confusing, but it does happen. I remember sending myself an email to work with a document attached which didn't arrive, so I had to put the document on a flash drive the next day and took it to work. It took another two days for email to arrive! I could have posted via the snail to myself and it would have got there quicker :D

i would log in to your webmail first and check and make a note of whats there, leave it a while and download them using OE and see if you get what was on the server for starters anyway
