Hi all

Ive just discovered to my delight that Space Shuttle Atlantis is due to launch on 14th feb 2008 from Cape Canaveral whilst we are there.

Has any one got any tips on the best place to view this from. I dont really want to pay hundreds of dollars to go and view it from KSC. But are there any other venues or parks etc, where this can be done for a fraction of the price.

Cheers

Pete

You'll get a decent view from anywhere along the coastal highway. We watched from Titusville and it was a great view. It's useful to choose a spot with some facilities close by (loos and food).

I always go to the Titusville Marina to avoid the heavy crowds. We went on Tuesday and there were 6 cars there. It was perfect!!

I take Hwy 50 to I95 North. Get off at the Titusville Historic District Exit (It's the first exit after you get on I95...Garden Street). Turn left onto US Hwy 1 and then make an immediate right into the marina. You will see a baseball field on your right just after the marina. Plenty of free parking and it is right on the Indian River. It is 50 minutes from Orlando but as a first timer I would allow for heavy traffic and uncertainty of driving.

I've posted about this before and suggest that you read this thread (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=160641&highlight=shuttle) for further suggestions.

Wow, fantastic photos FLGirl!! I had actually printed off your previous helpful post with map yesterday as there is an outside chance I just might be around for the Dec 6th launch and I want to be prepared just in case. I had been thinking Spaceview Park but above will be handy to know about as a 2nd option.

We had planned to visit KSC during our holiday so this is a bonus, booked launch tickets and a day at KSC yesterday for Dec 6th. Can't wait this will be the first time we have seen the shuttle launch.

Pete, we saw Atlantis go up in august while we were there and it is such an amazing experience. We travelled to just before KSC to the Astronught Hall of Fame. You cant miss it, it has the big shuttle outside. It was great. There are different exhibits inside, rides and info to look at. If you go get there early. We got there for 1pm and launch was not until 6.30pm. Pick your sspo and have a picnic outside. We got a great view and there was even an astronaught giving a talk before the shuttle went up.

Also you could head to Cocoa beach and have a day out at the beach.

great photos, this is something that I would be interested in seeing but I do not think they have a launch due in Nov 08 when we are there.
