Going this Christmas with DH (late 50's like me) and DD (24). This year I had knee surgery and although it is 90% better I still have discomfort standing for any length of time. I have a stick which helps and walking is fine as long as I don't try to hurry but crowds tend to jostle and make me nervous as I can't move out of people's way quickly. I don't need a pass or assistance, but has anyone else had experience of how minor mobility problems are considered?

a couple of years ago, our son came with us, he had problems with his knees swelling and was uncomfortable in walking for too long,
we hired wheelchairs in each park for him, he tended to just use them when it got too much for him, found it helped a lot, in our experience the chair was never a problem in any of the parks, no matter how crowded they were.

My Mum has really bad knee problems, and she had to hire a wheelchair to go around the parks. Even though she always said that she wouldn't succumb to this, we finally got her to realise that not only would it be better for her, but Dad and my DB's family would benefit as they could spend longer out in the day.
She was glad that we pushed her to do it, as she managed to see everything she wanted to and she didn't have to suffer to do so..

DH has travelled a few times after knee surgery and found the same problems as you especially with crowds. A wheelchair was out of the question as I already have DS to push around in a wheelchair so he hired an ECV on some days.

Other times we just had to plan a bit more carefully so we didn't have him standing for long periods or doing a lot of walking without resting. We avoided the worst of the crowds by getting to the parks early and waiting a while after shows, parades, fireworks etc until the crowds died down a bit.

We found that if ever there was a specific problem CMs were only too happy to help if you ask.
