According to an article on the BBC news this morning the £145 duty and tax free allowance for goods bought abroad in non EC countries is set to double but probably not until January 1st. :)

I'm sure when they announced this back along, they said it would be this year. Let's hope it's not delayed again. :(

pity the useless government can impose a tax retrospectively but when it comes to us getting something takes forever for it to come through.

but isn't it when your luggage gets back that will count? :d: :d:
or is it just us that have problems with our luggage not sharing the same flight as us :confused2

It was on BBC's breakfast show this morning - I can't find a mention to it on their website I'm afraid.

Is it just the amount you can spend or the alcohol etc... too? Being only able to bring 1 litre each is poor, especially when you can bring so much from europe!

Yes this id good news - if the EU hadnt blocked the UK proposal for a limit of £1000 IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.

We've known this for some time - it was agreed late last year I believe but with no introduction date, so at least it looks like we have one now.

As mrB says though, the £1000 was blocked by Europe, who didn't want the poorer European countries to be penalised by this high limit!!

Yikes! Still a long wait yet then! Isn't it funny that things that seem to benefit us take ages to implement, but things that cost us seem to happen very quickly! ;)

I notice later they say 1st Dec 2008 is the earliest it can apply, whats the betting its dragged out further, it was meant to be in for Summer 2007 at one point.

I wish they would up the Spirits allowance, so DH could stock up on his beloved JD!! 1 litre each is pants when you think how much you can bring from Spain etc...
